Snoqualmie Flood

Well, if you have been watching the news in the Seattle area, and possibly some national news, we are in the midst of near-record flooding. I am at the Emergency Operations Center, not sure how late I will be here tonight. Downtown Snoqualmie (including the brewery) is completely cut off, no way in or out, most residents have been evacuated (a few idiots refused to leave, including a lady in a trailer who is now ankle deep in water - and it's still rising). Expected crest is 10:00 p.m., most significant flood since 1990. Just waiting to see what it looks like when the water recedes...
 
We have been watching Pat and we're pulling for all of you! It's terrible when there's absolutely nothing you can do about it. I've watched it with hurricanes here and it's heartbreaking to see 100 year old Oaks topple over, roots and all, especially when they fall on important things.

Stay warm and dry if you can my friend, you, Patty and everyone out there are in our hearts and prayers!

I hope conditions improve and thanks for providing assistance. We lost a home on June 8, 2008 due flooding with water as highas 6' in the garage. It was a total loss. Life's a roller coaster.Local churches and Red Cross along many other provided assistance and food this included FEMA. We saw them in action in Pt Charlotte, FL after Hurricance Charlie and more recently in Indiana. They did a great job so I assume the slackers and goof balls reported in media were elsewhere.

Sorry to hear that, Pat. That's an awful mess.

I'm at work listening to my handheld VHF, which calls for heavy rain tonight and many rivers at or above flood stage.

Pat, We were just watching the news and they showed the Snoqualmie Falls. Doesn't look even close to what the picture in the "WinterScapes" thread does.

You and all the rest of the NW folk that are downstream from almost anywhere tonight, are in our prayers for safety, security and less water. We have many friends who are in deep water tonight, literally. Anything we can do from here or in the future, be glad to help.

Last night the Snoqualmie was running at 60,000 cfs,(at Carnation) this morning it is running at 90,000 and will not crest for about 4 more hours.
The falls will be unbelievable this morning.

Pat and Patty, and everyone in Western Washington, may you all be safe from floods, mudslides, and all the rest of the hazards that this weather has brought us.

I just watched the BBC news, and British Columbia also got hit hard. Hope all Brats to the north are safe, too!

Thanks all. I was in the EOC all day (elected officials and lawyers are pretty useless in an EOC but the EOP calls for us to be there). The trend at the Falls has been steadily downward since about 10:00 p.m. (which was the predicted time for the crest at the Falls all day yesterday) last night when it hit 60,500 cfs. "Flood stage" is 20,000 cfs. This is probably the second largest flood on record - the largest was 1990, which was estimated at 78,000 cfs (the gage broke, so it had to be estimated). The mean gage height at Snoqualmie Falls is 6 feet, so the surface water elevation in this flood was 14 - 15 feet higher than the mean. All roads in and out of downtown Snoqualmie are still closed, so there is no way to tell how the brewery fared. It is back to the EOC for me in a few minutes.

Just got an email from Pat A and the water is starting to recede in Snoqualmie. At its highest point it was just lapping over the loading dock, but didn't get into the brewery. You can't get any closer than that. Power is out in town also.

Hi Everybody,
It has been quite the flooding here in the Stanwood area too. It went up over the RR tracks by the park and ride. I don't ever remember a time when that happend. They evacuated the old folks home moving the residence to the high school.
Also sad to say that the Stilly slough dike down by the water treatment plant broke in three places. Leque Road is like a giant bathtub when the water comes in.
Here at our house the tide is going out and so that gives relief for a time.
Hope everybody is doing alright and staying dry.

Yes, watching the news, it is evident that Snoqualmie was far from the hardest hit area this time. The waters have substantially receded, in fact we re-opened the Taproom about 4:00 p.m. yesterday. Today starts the clean-up and the damage assessment phase.
 
Hi Pat and David, I am glad that everything at the Brewery is OK. Having never been to that area, I do not have a clear picture of how all of the properties and infrastructure sits compared to the watercourses.

Being in publc safety, I fully understand and have seen first hand too many times to count the damage that is suffered from flooding. It is not pretty. Also, because of my background in staffing EOC's, I am always interested in how other places handle those functions and the parts that people play in those organizations.

And for the record, Matt, I WAS NOT BEING FUNNY AND DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW YOU GOT THAT FROM WHAT I WROTE. IF YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER COMMENT ABOUT THAT PLEASE PM, ME. I WOULD BE GLAD TO DISCUSS IT FURTHER WITH YOU THERE.

Roger and Lizbeth, I see on the news that the Stanwood School District and Snohomish School District are still closed due to the flooding. Hope your home is unscathed in this.
