I get out most weekends on Jordan Lake, NC which is only 15 minutes from my house. I find a quiet cove, toss the anchor, set up a large folding camp chair and sit down for breakfast and a book. What a great setup! The boat is perfect for that type of solo stress release.

I have also found the boat VERY easy to trailer and launch with my Nissan Frontier.

So, of course, it is time to look at other boats :D

While the 16 has been great through the summer, I really don't want to give up my boat, book and breakfast routine come winter. I know I COULD do it in the 16 but a 22 would be oh so much cozier. I could also use the 22 as a realistic camper when traveling to places such as the Thousand Islands or the Erie Canal.

My only concern is launch/retrieval. I use the 16 so much now because launching is just simply not an issue. The 22 looks like it might be almost as easy but I thought some of you probably have direct experience on both boats.

Since I almost always go out alone, docking would be slightly more challenging on the 22 because I would have to move a bit between helm and cockpit.

I won't ask directly if you think I should get the 22 because I already know what you would say :)

Does the color affect the ease of launch/retrieval? :D

Yes - used blue ones are the easiest to launch. The second easiest are anything that Marc has for sale.

On a more serious note, the 22 is pretty easy to launch single handed. I've done it many times.

Absolutely .
Green is easiest to launch ,followed by blue .
But really , you will get used to the launch of a larger craft and there are tricks of the trade to make it easier . The type of trailer you get will matter as well .
Marc

Roger , for the record , I have no 22s . But its interesting we agree the blue ones launch better .

You're up late Marc. Don't you have to go to church tomorrow? Or better yet get out for the early morning bite?

I will be bleeding the hydraulic steering on the Ranger 29 we sold at the Tampa Boat show in the A.M. I am 275 miles from home ,earning Hilton[I'm a Hampton Inn guy] Rewards Points, and doing good deeds . And staying up late .

I find talk about the easy of launching kind of funny. Even my 27 is easy to trailer, launch, and dock. I have had boats from 12 to 27 over the last 15 years and and have found all of them easy to launch as long as you have a system. I have launched the 22 at ramps with out docks, at a beach on the sand and several rivers. as long as you take your time and have a plan its easy.

buy a boat and I will give you free lessons.

The colors all launch the same, but more people watch it if it is red

Hi Tom,

Good to see you posting here. Did you have a moment of concern when you first launched the 16? And after a time or two, it was easy, right? It will be the same with the 22. I've launched and retrieved Wild Blue solo. The premise is pretty similar with these boats, just a little more mass.

Are you sure you don't want to just skip the next step and go right to a 25? 8) Oh, that's right, you like to buy boats.

I have no doubt that you will like the comfort of an enclosed cabin... and still have plenty of room in the cockpit to stretch out on your chair and read. Then step inside and fix some breakfast and pour another cup of coffee.

You know where to get ahold of me if you want to talk about this.

Best wishes,
Jim

Oh, and Harvey is pretty close... the colors all launch/retrieve the same, but more people watch it if a pretty blonde backs the trailer in.

Several C-Brats that came to the Mississippi River Gathering, came alone, who launched, operated and retrieved their boats on unfamiliar ramps and into the river current without any problems what so ever.

In fact most times when offered help, these individuals chose/preferred to “do it myself” since they had established a routine or protocol for each operation.

Sounds like it's time for a bigger boat.

Regards,

Ron, Connie & Bear Fisher
