Simrad EVO2 Black Screens

Gratitude

Ahoy C-Brats,

Has anyone ever encountered, and solved the following issue with your Simrad EVO2 System.

First the system:

2 ea 9" Displays
4 G Radar
Autopilot
Structure Scan module and Side Scan
Radio

So we went for a harbor cruise two days ago, and I powered up the complete system. Both displays presented everything properly - until I pulled up the Radar display. The unit would display all the AIS targets around me, but I got an error code the the radar interface was not valid. It would not transmit.

Then both displays began acting up, and automatically powering down while in operation. After resetting and powering back up, first only one of the displays would work, then neither. I left both displays off for about 30 minutes, and tried several times to power both of them up, with no success.

While the displays were off, I checked to see what other accessories worked.

Wallas good
Radio good,
Running lights good
Cabin lights good
Simrad Ethernet network good with both lights green on the sounder module

I checked the fuses, and they appeared fine.
I pulled the power cord to the displays and reinstalled with no success.

Any suggestions are appreciated. I hope to resolve this before trying West Marine's warranty.

All the best,
Jim

Jim,
I don't have an answer, but when I see a problem like that, the first thing I do is take out the volt meter, and start checking voltages at the various points, including with display's running, at the MFD side of the fuses--the radar at the scanner, (If accessible).

Also go thru and check all junctions, including grounds for corrosion. After wire brushing the busbar/terminal fittings and putting a little dielectric anti corrosion grease on the terminals--tighten them as snug as possible.

Thank you both Bob and Brent for your prompt reply's. I will need to get a friend to help me out with checking the voltage. I do not have the tool or the knowledge of how to do as suggested.

Jim, is the boat in the water? I'll be in Seal Beach in less than a month, and happy to take a look if the boat is nearby. I remember a great afternoon at the Long Beach Boat show looking at the various electronics and quizzing the factory reps of the major manufacturers!

Hi Bob,

First thank you for the wonderful offer. The boat is stored up in Oxnard at the Channel Islands Landing dry storage with the hoist service.

If the issue is not resolved before you get in town, I am sure that we can make arrangements to meet. I will let you know.

I always enjoy our time together.

All the best,
Jim
