Shark vs. Sea Lion, Columbia River

Here is a short article and video showing a shark eating a seal or sea lion in the river a few days ago. My daughter saw the video on the guy's phone and said it was much clearer on the small screen.

This is right near where we do our crabbing. As the article states, the language is a little salty.

Brutal--I used to swim with the Sea Lion's off Santa Barbara Island (with mask, snorkel and fins) Had I seen this, I would have re-considered.

Many years ago I worked at a summer camp on Catalina Island. There was a Great White which requested the waters off Long Point. I had my own small sailboat at the camp, and used to go out and watch it thru a plexiglass bottom " Look box ". It ate seals on occasion--but never bothered the swimmers at the Y camp. We only allowed swimming and diving in restricted areas close to the beach.

Here is another set of videos off S. Africa of sharks feeding on seals/sea lions...not pretty.

I refuse to see "Jaws"--even though I know it is "fake"--and knew the folks who made the mechanical shark used in the movie...
