SeaDek flooring? Opinions or experience?

Seems like every bass boat and wakeboard boat at the DFW boat show has SeaDek everywhere. I really like the colors, teak look, cushioning effect etc..
Planning the cockpit, top of cockpit gunwales, and up the main cabin aisle. Also a helm pad.
I searched archives, not much there.

SeaDec does not seem to be popular on the C Dory. We have used Ozite carpet from Home Depot--cheap, easy to wash. Doesn't cushion as much, but usually wearing shoes. Use a cheap Wal Mart runner in the cabin. Change every year or so. Noting on the gunnels.

There is Nu Dec, Ocean deck, etc--lots of the foams. Apparently do OK with light use--heavy use and abuse, like crab pots etc--maybe not so well.

I consider it cosmetic. If you want a helm pad you are going to stand on, you might consider more of an EVA foam--or at least thicker.

High End Guys like Gulf Port John have this really great,DECKadence. It is really pricey, but it looks great, and seems to stay that way. Really nice on the feet. Looks good all of the time...

Some have used one of several plastic teak substitutes, which really look good.

You can make a template (instructions on the site) and cut it and install it yourself with a utility blade. My bet is it's cheaper than SeaDek (with it's pro install) overall. Dirt, sand, grime goes down to the floor and stays there, invisible. No slipping on a wet deck. I don't think you could fall on Deckadence and break a hip if you tried, if that's on your Worry List (we're 61). Pics in the album.
Artic White in the cabin has stayed pristine, if you like the Florida Condo look in your C-Dory. Backwash it with a hose to clean. I wanted it in the cockpit too, but Eileen insisted on Yamaha Gray. In retrospect, Artic White would have done fine, no dirt ever shows.
James on Molly Brown thinks it would do poorly with dog hair.
Thanks to Tom on C-Otter for the original find.
Best Upgrade Overall Ever (along with dual 12-inch Garmin MFD's and yes there is plenty of room at the helm with a pivoting RAM mount).
I think Bob's got me wrong, I'm not a 'high end' guy, I'm a 'Buy Quality The First Time And You'll Never Be Disappointed' guy, driving a 2005 GMC HD2500 diesel and a 2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 429HP V8 that looks like a Honda, but will suck the doors off passing one on I-10.
Happy Shopping!
John

I'm going to do a SeaDek interior on my 92 Whaler Montauk 17 and decide from there. Should be about $21 sq ft. (About $1100) and I'll let y'all know how it goes!

That stuff is way too expensive for me. I have a couple of tufted mats from HD. Maybe $10 ea. They've lasted fine for 4 years so far.

When they get dirty I just pull them out an hose 'em off.

I am a fan of these artificial decking materials but the price will set you back quite a bit more than some kind of outdoor or marine carpeting.
I used some of the NuTeak version on the back steps of a sailing cat in the hot Florida sun a few years ago and loved it.

Cosmetically: they look great and covered a lot spider cracking I had. You do have to make sure you use the right glues and do a good job of edge caulking so it doesn't look like a back yard job if you do it your self.

Functionally: the material was considerably less slippery and much cooler than the original fiberglass molded non slip.
I could not see a big difference between the NuTeak and the stuff you are looking at.
Good luck.

I currently have the Home Depot outdoor carpet in the cabin. Looks great. Looking at all the boats using SeaDek as OEM flooring, I'm not too worried about longevity. I think the cushion effects of SeaDek will be nice for long cruising days. We'll see.

SeaDek is comfortable on your feet and is a good quality product BUT I don't like the look of it for a C Dory.

I used Plasdeck (teak and Holly)on my 19 and was very pleased with it. Top notch fit/finish and quality but very pricey... Especially if you have it professionally installed. A DIY measure and install will save you A LOT.

On my current boat ( 25) I used Lonseal on the cabin. Very reasonably priced and looks amazing. IMO it mimics real wood more than the other faux teak brands. Very easy to work with the material too.

SeaDek gets my vote for most comfortable with bare feet though. Nice stuff. Just not my bag
