Talked with Joel and Sue- they are in the water near Biloxy, Mississippi.
He hasn't found a wireless outlet yet and will check in when they do--- hopefully tomorrow.

They are having fun :thup (damn retired people)

Tell them to give us a shout--they are only a few blocks err miles away....we drained the water out of the boat--because it was going down to 30 degrees to night along the Gulf Coast....

Finally found a network that I can hook on to.... on he Air Force Base...
We've had an exciting time... long ride to Biloxi.... but got here fine..only to find out that the marina that was supposed to be open.... did not open and just did not bother to update their website... Sue called around....there was a fishing tournament this weekend...so most were full or not open...she called Ocean Springs Marina...and they made room for us.... but no bathrooms or showers.... (still rebuilding)... really nice folks though.... and the solar shower works just fine...
First day Sue stepped from the dock and the boat and yep...boat moved and Sue went in.... what a good sport...

Yesterday we went out to Ship Island...to see the Civil War Fort...not a sole there.... so we climbed in a gun port...and gave ourselves a tour... as we got out and were walking back to the boat... in roared the Homeland Defense folks....full blast... then the Boarder Patrol boat...scared the heck out of us... but they were just doing a drill....and paid no attention to us......

Today we bought some shrimp off a boat tied close to us... should be a great dinner....

Our plan is to stay here for the weekend, then head east... to Pensacola area.....

What a Great Place !!!

No idea why...but the tach on one motor does not work now.... checked all the conections...both at the motor and the gauge... guess I should find a Yamaha dealer....

Also realized that my C80 Raymarine did not have the chip I need for this area.....I looked at it... West Coast and Hawaii.... nope...won't work ...I kinda hate to buy a chip just for a few weeks of use....cheeper to buy a couple of new props...... I improved the polish on my props yesterday....oops

What is almost worse....my Garman 276 handheld (that I use in the truck) has all the information... but it is on a disk (at home) my detail ends at Texas... again oops !!! darn... the new Garman units have a larger memory so they can handle the entire USA... (mine is several years old)

As far as Pensacola area marinas go, we like Holiday Harbor Marina. We've stayed there a few times. Nice folks and facility...laundry, showers, store, bar & grill. The slips near the showers are well protected.

NAS Pensacola has a nice little marina on base (Sherman Cove) but you cannot sleep on the boat...really silly...so we usually just launch there and stay elsewhere.

Holiday Harbor is remote from the city and supplies. It is a good marina.

Camp Thataway, has free slips, and all of the amenities--for free--plus transport. However it is out of the way...a bit remote up Perdido Bay, if coming by boat.

We now are in Apalachicola....we spent yesterday with Mark at Wefings...and his mechanic worked on the motors....got them running much better....and tested my charging circuit...yet one motor was not charging...and that is what killed the tach signal... all I need is a recitifier... he even swapped the rectifiers to make sure the charging coils were alright.... (my kind of mechanic... good mind...thinks things through)
somewhere I will find a rectifier along my travels and replace that one...in the mean time, one motor will keep the batteries charged just fine...

We had a SUPER time in Pensacola...with Dr. Bob.....what great friends...friends we will cherish forever... it is amazing the people that we meet through the Brats community...

Also it is amazing the dealer support that C-Dory dealers give...not just service and repair...but really great frindship... last night we slept just in back of the Wefings boat dealership in our boat....not only did they run an electric cord out for us (for our heater...we needed it) but Mark gave us a key...so we could use the bathroom....now, where do you meet folks like that ??? everyone was like we were members of the family...could not have been more generous.... we are impressed...

Today we are headed up the intercoastal....for a few days...I found a cafe with internet access,,,may be a while before I can get back...but trust me....we are having a ball....

Glad to hear that Wefing's found the problem with the engine. I must say that having Joel and Sue as guests were a real delight. We had a great time!

I don't remember many pictures taken--we did a little run on the ICW to "Lulus" (Jimmy Buffett's sisters restaunt), some time touring the town, and a lot of talking and eating!

I really enjoyed meeting you all . Fellow Californians ! Have a great cruise along the Intracoastal , come back with stories and I still owe you some oysters . Ill try the peer pressure approach to get you to try them . BTW Alan is the mechanic that worked on your boat . He is one of our best ! Used to work on airplanes . Very thorough .
Marc

Alan did a fine job.... give him a gold star... they run better than they ever did, even when new.... they just purr..... power is strong from idle all the way to wide open.... I am impressed...

We are at the Port St.Joe marina this morning.... We traveled up the Intercoastal.....(after going out into the Bay to watch the oystermen work)..... and through Lake Wimico...neat place....it is a huge body of water and amazingly shallow.... (we stayed in the lanes)....passed several tugs with their barges....and saw beautiful contryside.... as it got dusk we started to look for hiding spots...and found the Intercoastal Cut to Port St.Joe.....OK... then out to the Gulf for a bit and into this neat little marina.... harbor master put us next to "the Raw Oyster Bar n Grill" where they had 2 fer one night..... yep... tried oysters raw and baked...but settled on the shrimp basket (outstanding)....and a whole lot of them 2 fer one beers.... This morning the harbormaster brought us the Panama City newspaper..... wow... I am feeling Big Time... this place even had nice showers....no quarters needed...

Today we are heading back to the Intercoastal and will spend the night in Panama City..... but...it just can't get any better than this...

We are in a slip with all the high dollar big boys...

Gotta go Play

Sounds like you guys are enjoying a great trip. It always helps to have people like Marc and his great staff at Wefings and John and the staff at Port St. Joe to enhance the experience. Your mention of the shallowness of Lake Wimico reminds me of the depth of Saul Creek -- hard to believe for a narrow creek. As I mentioned a while back in another thread, Saul Creek is a great place to anchor out if you return to Apalachicola by the same route. Be sure to check out every eating establishment Marc recommends. We were in hog heaven!

Regards to all,

Greg

Hey Joel & Sue!! Glad to see you got back to signal ville and could catch us up a bit. Yes, Alan is very good and takes his time to get things right. Good Man.

Attempted to give you a call, but your old cell has changed.... the one Roger gave me for Sue I left a message on... but hey... now that you have made a post I know all is well.

Yall continue to have a great time. Enjoyed having the two of you join us up in the Cumberland for a spell...and we need a re-do on that.

Safe Travels and Great Weather!!

Joel and Sue,

It sounds like you are having a great time on the GICW. We covered that same water a few weeks ago. We stayed at the Panama City Marina for 3 nights. You can walk to a lot of the old part of town. There are many good places to eat that are close by. Wish we were closer to share the two-fers with you. Dixie said to express her sympathy to Sue on her fall into the water. Dixie fell of the boat too but fortunately--or not--she landed on the dock. You guys keep having a good time and keep us all posted on how things are going. Are you going to make down here to the Keys--still plenty of time before Christmas.

Brent

HI Brent and Dixie,

I have somewhat recovered from my fall into the water, my pride was severly damaged and I have been VERY careful since then. We are experencing an extremely low tide and so the dock is WAYYYY up from the boat here in Pt St Joe. I wish you were here to share in the two fer's, Joel is trying to drink all the beer by himself. I keep expecting him to go in the drink next!

We will leave here tomorrow morning for Panama City and then we will return to Apalachacola to pick up the truck and trailer. Our son in law dragged us from LA to Biloxi in 3 1/2 days and I think we will slow the pace somewhat going home. Then we have to pack up to go to Lake Almanor for Christmas, where our son, daughter in law and new grandson will join us.

We have enjoyed our trip and I know we will return another year. Joel has found a bait shop, coffee shop or something in every place we've been. People have been extremely friendly and perhaps we can hook up another trip.

Sue

Sue, Glad to see that you are OK.

I would ask you to keep Joel in order...but I know one should set obtainable goals in life....so ...just have a great time down there.

Yall be careful and do keep us posted on your moves. When in PC, keep your eye out for a 44' Kadey Krogen, named DARLING. Great folks and friends of ours. Not sure how long they are staying in PC...on their way over to the east side of FL for a crossing over to Bahamas. Buck has enjoyed many hours with C-Pearl Jeff Brigner and myself. Tell them Hey for me if you see them.
