I'm sure that you have shared many words of constructive advice to many of us personally as well as publicly on this site, and for that I thank you. You have been a godsend to all of us and your words will last on the site forever.

I fear that most folks don't get the opportunity to "hear" what a positive impact they have had on individuals lives and I hope that you don't mind my expression of these feelings at this time.

Life has its frustrations: No word from Birmingham, so I called up there, and got an answering machine this AM--by 3:30 PM, no return call, and I called again. The secretary said "I am very busy"---hadn't even checked the answering machine.

The secretary would check with the surgeon--who was in surgery. She called back-"-your on for Oct 15th". I explained the prognosis--she called the surgeon back--and then it was moved up to Oct. 11th. I called my cardiologist, who was quite upset with this.

A bit later the Secretary called and had the UAB doctor on the line. "Those doctors in private practice don't under stand how busy we are at the university--we take the patients they won't. I do 2 cases a day, 5 days a week. What do you want me to do? Cancel another patient? Not go to a meeting I have scheduled next Friday? or find you another doctor?"--my response was "Are there any other doctors at UAB as good as you? (no answer to that one). I don't expect you to cancel a patient or your day off. However, I trained under Mike Debakey and Denton Cooley in Med school, was full time at UCLA School of Medicine for a couple of years, and worked about 80 hours a week when I was in private practice so I do understand your situation very well.". He said that he would see what he could do. About an hour later I got a phone call from the secretary that "she had made an error in the schedule, and there was an opening for surgery on Oct 4th.". Not ideal--and several weeks from when my cardiologist wanted it done. Now I just have to hang in until then and hope I don't have to call 911 (or have any more frustrating days, such as today)

Dr Bob,

If the service you have provided her on the C-Brats is any indication of the type of medical service you provided, (and I can't think it would be any less), we all know how much effort and how well you took care of your patients. I know what it is to work with that kind of a physician, and I have worked with some who weren't, and it is not hard to tell the difference. You are a rare find indeed, and we have been privileged to get to meet and learn from your experience. We will be praying for good connections for you through this, and for strength, patience, (maybe not too much) and comfort for your family. You take care of your self, and take it easy. Hopefully the days ahead will be less stressful, and you will be fine as cats fur til the 4th.

Just catching up on recent postings and ran into this thread. I'm sorry to hear of your situation and will keep you in my thoughs and prayers.

You obviously mean much to a lot of people. Although I've never met you in person, I feel you are a friend just from your voice on this forum. Your willingness to share your knowledge and expertise is part of what makes this forum so great. We owe you much!

We too, wanted to add our best wishes to Dr. Bob, and Marie. It's not just his vast knowledge of all things nautical, and marine, that's so remarkable. It's also his absolute willingness to share, while educating others.

His presence has not just had a major influence the C-Brats website, but also many, many other boating forums, over the years.

He was a great source of inspiration when our family did our "loop" 10 years ago in our trawler. Dr. Bob helped make our journey both safer, and more enjoyable.

You are in our prayers every night, and we look forward to hearing some good news soon! Best wishes, and good thoughts.

I just got off the the phone with Bob. They are are leaving tomorrow to be there on Mon. Keep up the thoughts and prayers.
