We are headed ou today, depending on weather, to the san juans. Looks to be a little windy both north and south of the Islands but the islands then selves look ok. not sure where we will end up tonight. thinking blind bay on shaw. will leave the house around 2 to 3. Hope to be on the water by 4 or 5. any one else going??

I'm working all weekend...but I took today off. Soaking some pots, since it's the last weekend for this year down here. The weather is fantastic! The water is like a lake between Camano, Whidbey and Hat! 8)

Have fun and stay dry. Looks like rain after today....

Me too. I'm waiting for Sunday based on the winds expecting to calm down. I'm going to one of my favorite spots, outside on San Juan.

Susan had a two hour commute home so we left late. Got to twin bridges just as the wind started. Decided to tie up in la connor next to moms boat. Just got up and will head to Friday harbor tonight.

Achored up in Friday harbor last night and dinghed in for a moive. Do not go see the american. We plan to fish alittle more and end up a steward tonight.

You really know when to hit a guy when he's down. I was suppose to be there on vacation this week, instead a cascade of events that started with a Doctors office visit, then down treadmill lane, to the cath lab and 3 way bypass all in 3 days. I just got home from the hospital a few minutes ago, sent the wife to the pharmach and I slid over to the computer, wow 750 messages! I should have been right there on the water between Whidney and Camano also! It will be next year before The weather and my body will be healed enough to enjoy the water again.

Welcome back home Don, glad you caught your medical problem before you ended up on the brown side of the turf. Won't be long, before you'll feel better that you did before. :thup .

 Damn, Don...all the best. Hidden/unknown medical conditions like that scare the you-know-what out of me. Take care of yourself first; boating will be there when you do.

If it makes you feel better after noon the winds really kicked up and made anchoring & retrieving the pots solo very challenging. I pulled the pots from north of Langley and had only one keeper. I re-baited and ran down to the north side of Hat/Gedney and soaked them for another hour. They were PACKED w/ crab upon retrieval; one pot had >36 crab  but mostly females, small males and one soft shell that went back. I eded up with only three more keepers.

Got back to Everett at about 5 and upon jumping out of the boat I lost the stern line. The wind quickly took the stern and moved the boat to near a 90 degree angle to the dock.  :x Luckily, no other boats across from me or I would've hit them. I quickly jumped in, started the outboard and manage to NOT hit or damage anything except my pride. The nice teenage girl at the dock asks me "Do you need any help, Sir?"

Take care and heal up.....

Whoa, Don! There's a wake-up call! Thanks for sharing that bit news with us, and I wish you a speedy and complete return to new.

"Do you need any help, Sir?"

So my question is, did you take her up on the offer?

I felt the same way, eventhough I am an RN, I work the clinic side and try and stay far away from the hospitals, but either I am getting older or the staff is just getting plain younger. Too bad about the small size of the haul, but you are sure right about a bit of wind ruining an otherwise perfect docking setup.

Don sorry to hear about your health. glad to hear that they caught it in time. That conditions is just a walking time bomb, but easily corrected if found. take it easy for a while.

we ended up not coming back until Tuesday afternoon. woke up Tuesday in Friday harbor at 530 with intent of running back in time to put the boat on the trailer before low tide. The weather had other plans for us. total fog and rain to boot. I could have ran back with radar but at 6 mph we would have missed our tide window anyhow so why bother.

We had a great weekend. spent nights at la Conner, Friday harbor, prevost harbor and again at Friday. We walked the trail to the turn point light house from Reid harbor, 4.5 miles, we saw whales from the boat at turn point, saw a lot of dolphins all weekend, caught a few crab, saw a bad movie, and just had a good time sitting in the boat reading.

We are learning the benefits of anchoring out. I bought this boat just so I could do more of it. After Susan spent two night on the hook then a night back at the dock she stated that the dock just did not feel as natural. not enough nature noise and movement as when at anchor. I do not miss a thousand people walking pass the boat at all times of the day and night. Having the dinghy to make shore runs is the magic that makes it possible.

Speaking of dinghy's, I need to teach my other half how to tie a knot. Susan ran the dog to the dock at prevost for his morning duties then came back to bed because it was rainy and cold and we were just reading books in the v-berth. couple of hours later I hear " hey c-dory, anyone aboard?" when I bolted out the back hatch I see a sail boat with my dinghy tied alone side. Seems it had escaped and drifted down wind into the harbor.

total lost for the weekend was One oar for the dinghy ( another shore trip by the crew) one rod holder ( my fault) and one crab pot. Some guy in a runabout ran over our pot and snagged the buoys around his out drive at full throttle. a witness said the driver never noticed he was water skiing my pot across the bay. the prop cut the line after a hundred yards and all we got back was the buoys. I can just see the crabs faces now. aaahhhhhhh!!!!

Tom teach her the bowline. "The bunny comes up the hole, runs around the tree and goes back into the hole". I use that knot above all others [I can barely remember from my days in The Scouts].
