we ended up not coming back until Tuesday afternoon. woke up Tuesday in Friday harbor at 530 with intent of running back in time to put the boat on the trailer before low tide. The weather had other plans for us. total fog and rain to boot. I could have ran back with radar but at 6 mph we would have missed our tide window anyhow so why bother.
We had a great weekend. spent nights at la Conner, Friday harbor, prevost harbor and again at Friday. We walked the trail to the turn point light house from Reid harbor, 4.5 miles, we saw whales from the boat at turn point, saw a lot of dolphins all weekend, caught a few crab, saw a bad movie, and just had a good time sitting in the boat reading.
We are learning the benefits of anchoring out. I bought this boat just so I could do more of it. After Susan spent two night on the hook then a night back at the dock she stated that the dock just did not feel as natural. not enough nature noise and movement as when at anchor. I do not miss a thousand people walking pass the boat at all times of the day and night. Having the dinghy to make shore runs is the magic that makes it possible.
Speaking of dinghy's, I need to teach my other half how to tie a knot. Susan ran the dog to the dock at prevost for his morning duties then came back to bed because it was rainy and cold and we were just reading books in the v-berth. couple of hours later I hear " hey c-dory, anyone aboard?" when I bolted out the back hatch I see a sail boat with my dinghy tied alone side. Seems it had escaped and drifted down wind into the harbor.
total lost for the weekend was One oar for the dinghy ( another shore trip by the crew) one rod holder ( my fault) and one crab pot. Some guy in a runabout ran over our pot and snagged the buoys around his out drive at full throttle. a witness said the driver never noticed he was water skiing my pot across the bay. the prop cut the line after a hundred yards and all we got back was the buoys. I can just see the crabs faces now. aaahhhhhhh!!!!
