Salmon - B10 and Beyond

Anybody up for ocean salmon outside the Columbia on Sunday, July 11? There's too much of a tide swing and poor timing for this Sunday, but the 11th looks good for out at daylight and back by 10:00am or so. Fishing is closed on Saturdays, and they make me work on all the others, so that day is about the only chance I will get until after two weeks of Blakely and the SJ's. It would be good to let the salt water clean the grunge and growth off the trim tabs and transducer before putting the boat on the trailer.

The biologist that checked our sturgeon the other day said the coho in the ocean will be crazy this year. Lots and lots of fish.

Company would be cool on the first outside trip with the boat. So what do ya think?

The B~C will run out with ya.....it was good fishing last Sunday, not hot and heavy crazy action but steady

How big were they?

It still amazes me that them 3-5 pound fish can triple in size in 6 weeks. Shoot, last year there were quite a few 18 pounders, and a couple of 20 pound silvers I heard of taken from the river. I think our biggest was 17 pounds, which is pretty darn fat for a silver.

I believe fish are one of the most effecient converters of food as far weight gain.

If you where looking for a co-pilot, I'd be honored to ride in the Tyboo...the wad of cash I would pump into my truck gas tank could easily fit in your boat tank

Well sir, I don't know just yet who all will be aboard, but it's a pretty safe bet that K, two kids and two dogs will be along. You sure you're up for that? We'll have to talk about it later in the week to see what's going on. The TyBoo would be equally honored to have you aboard, that's for sure, and we might even leave the durn dogs at home just for you. And since somebody has to drive, four poles trolling would be perfect.

I saw my old friend Lyle down at the dock a little bit ago. Larry was zonked out on the Helen O, and I figure he must have been snoring or something because Lyle was walkin' the docks looking lonely. I had to come home to get some sturgeon prepped for smoking, but I'm about to run back down there for a few. The fish goes in the smoker at 10:30, and then I get to sleep until 2:00 or so and go fishing right after the smoking is done.

B~C -

So? You riding with us on Sunday? You are more than welcome, and there is plenty of room. The kids will be on a pretty short leash for the trip, and I am sure we can convince K to leave the mutts at home since it will be a short day. The kids-on-leashes is said figuratively. They won't actually be tied up, but they won't be bouncing around in the boat, either.

In order to get fresh herring, we will have to wait until about 5:00am to leave the dock. Still plenty of time to shoot out and back in on the tide. Besides, I don't relish the thought of running west in the river in the dark. I can find the channel and the buoys OK, but the driftwood and crabpots are a different story.

See ya there?

Cool. Far out. We'll leave the dock as soon as we got the fresh bait aboard. We'll be standing at the Taco Time door at 4:30. If I remember to order and prepay, I might get it that early. Bring your pole and your blue PFD. Bring M if she wants.

Cool....hey...if you should need to bump me/us to make room for a non boater, don't hesitate to do so.....I'm trying to go baitless this year, did just as well as the baitpullers on opening day with hoochies...got to get the cost per serving down :)

If things don't change, see ya at the motor yacht 4:30 ish Sunday morn :)

OK - that sounds good. Maybe I'll learn to like the baitless approach. Don't be playing too much with them hoochies in front of the wife and kids, though.

Jr showed back up and now everybody wants to go fishing...we'll be hauling the boat down..catch you on the water amigo

It's because of the dogs, ain't it?

OK then, we'll look you up and Tiffany will tell you when you get a hit.

What channel for the CDCR bar report?

Yup, it was the dog...don't want my toe bit off :) I gots the radio set to scan several channels, 68 is one of them. We'll hail you on 16, or, whatever channel you perfer when we get out in the river. Where's that Tim guy hidding? Could he be overstocked on salmon and doesn't feel the urge to fish the big pond?
Daggum Larry was following me around today, I spied his rig at Bob's and then ran into him at Home Depot. We got some fishing and cruising done right there in the parking lot.

Tiffany will probably be to busy reeling in the fish to be watching my fishing gear. Did you take the Sturgeon Queen out to the salt last year?

What a great day, we pulled out of Ilwaco at O Dark:30 and when we hit the main channel....there was the Tyboo steaming out to the big pond. We did a drive by then off to the fishing grounds...Hootchies at 12 pulls put just as many fish in the boat as the bait did. We loaded up the fish bag and headed back. On the way back to port we stopped by the Tyboo just in time to see Tiffany reel one in. It appeared that they where having a fine day also.
Today was the maden voyage for the Boatersworld fish bag, it worked good and sure beats lugging that big cooler around.

Flat water and good fishing today.

Well sir, I do believe that was Jamie, the 7 yr. old, who reeled that one in. I also believe that it was her second one ever and her limit for the day. Thank you for the picture!

We ended up with six in the box. Me and the kids punched out, but grandma could only snag natives. We had a half dozen or so of the finny fellers, and we lost probably 15 fish. Trying to hand the pole off to kids when using barbless hooks might have had something to do with that. Great day, great water, and great seeing B~C's crew.

Sorry I couldn't keep up with you, Ken, but the barge isn't as swift as the 22's. It isn't as fun to fish from, either.

Yup, sure enough, I have done got those kids mixed up..I was concentrating of get close enough to talk without swapping gelcoat....That motor yacht must be slow, we got out to the #4 can and M said she lost sight of you. I saw you out north of the spark plug and was going to head over there a couple of times but fish kept getting in the way.

The 25th should be about a repeat of the tides and weather, if you like to fish on smaller and more cramped boats, you're more than welcome on the B~C anytime

I can't believe the old Tyboo is still in your pile O' C-Dorys Dusty. Watcha gonna do with it?

Seriously, she's for sale again at EQ... purchaser had some financial probs and she's back in the barn. Good, darned good boat.
