retired geezers

I haven't posted on here much the last few years as I've been busy working two jobs and, I get tired of reading about you retired old geezers cruising around, anytime, anyplace. Lake Powell one month, Puget Sound the next, sheesh, do you know how hard it is to read about these great adventures as I trudge off to another day in the knowledge factory? It's tough, I can't take it anymore so I'm going to officially join the old geezer ranks in June and retire from the knowledge factory. I'll keep the summer prison labor camp job for a few more years though.

My retirement goal is to find all of Tyboo's prime sturgeon spots :)

For many years I was working overtime including most Saturdays. The only days we had available to take out the boat and go diving were Sundays. I had to drag myself out of bed, but did so because I knew it was my only chance.

I retired two years ago with only one goal. I wanted to spend the weekdays the way I used to spend Sundays. Because of bad weather and rough seas, that hasn't happened often enough. I was planning to get fuel tomorrow, but the swells are picking up again. :(

There are only two and you already know where one of 'em is. Well, maybe you know. If I recall you weren't really paying attention last time. You and Rod were playing cards or something and the fish on your line was jumping around laughing at you.

Congratulations on getting old! It ain't so bad, really.

They are talking about a huge coho run this year so maybe you can get in some ocean before summer camp and some river after. The old tub of mine might even keep up with your speed boat now that I got the big Piszuki.

how long did it take you guys to adjust to retirement and enjoying weekends throughout the week? 15, 20 minutes?

I don't think I'll have much free time until after prison camp. I do aim to get down your way more often though. I do have to hold back some on the adventures until M retires or she'll start getting a little pissy if I have to much fun

once retired, does a person have to play golf and pickelball or is it optional?

Me: "Hey Dotty, what day is it?"

Dotty: "I don't know, ask Dan" (our neighbor)

Me: "What's his phone number?"

Dotty: "It's on the list"

Me: "Where's the list?

Dotty:"It's by the phone"

Me: "Where's the phone?

Dotty: Oh, it's garbage day, I can see Dan's cans so it must be Thursday

that's good to know, I hope to stay busy. the last thing I want to do is sit around and decay. I have plenty of projects around the house & I can always go to Juneau and work on boats for a spell in the winter, druther be in AZ though

Ken, congrats on up the upcoming change of lifestyle! Being retired is still my favorite job. Like you, we did the "fun summer jobs" for years - loved the area and the whales, it was just that whole being on a schedule thing. I think my favorite part of being gainfully unemployed is no schedule... and sticking to it.

Enjoy!

Ken, Congratulations. You are going to enjoy it, but it might take a while to get used to. Like maybe until the second morning when you don’t wake up because the alarm didn’t go off. Or when you figure out you actually get paid for not going to work, and you have to check your phone or the computer to see what day it is, and you can’t find your watch because you haven’t worn it since … who knows.

There will be times when you have so much stuff on your “gotta get it done” list that you wonder if you will ever get to the bottom of it. And you might wind up not getting up before 0800 some morning and then you will realize that you did it and the world didn’t come to a stop, the mail kept coming and the groceries were still at the store tomorrow.

A friend of mine who is a teacher finds she misses the environment, so volunteers and tutors. I miss the folks I worked with, and dealing with my patients but I DO NOT MISS the politics of the workplace. You will probably do fine. Now until “M” retires you may wind up feeling anchored a bit, so while you aren’t off on the boat, a few house chores will go a long way in keeping her OK with you having “all that extra spare time”.

maybe we can look forward to having a CBGT at Cathlametstan, or seeing Blue-C at Friday Harbor.

BTW, you do not have to succumb to getting old. OldER each day yes, but avoid getting old. It has it’s drawbacks.

Harvey, until M retires I'll still be getting up early, I aim to take over all of the cooking and cleaning in the interest of staying married, I gots to find me a proper apron.

James-The no schedule concept is very appealing, I enjoyed my core duties but having a schedule took some of the fun away....that and the ever increasing PCBS

I'm going to pretty busy until fall but after that I hope to make some Brat pack gatherings. A columbia river gathering would be doable

I thought I was getting old when I started recieving AARP membership invites, now I'm getting flyers from cremation services, got another one today.....damn vultures

The cremation flyers will help you get ready for when your Medicare starts. I think the governement notifies every wacko health scammer that you are now 'prime-beef' status

I'm busier now than before I retired. I retired early, and it took me two years to realize I don't need a new career. I'm retired! lol. (And yet I'm still driving school bus as a sub, which is just about full time -20 hrs/week- when I'm available! A great job if you still want to do something, earn a little extra money, like kids and like to drive!) Colby
