This oil appears to be only on the skeg. This would suggest that it was from the seat at the lower gear box prop shaft. It is possible that some monofilament line got caught on the prop, and damaged the seal--most common cause. The lower unit oil needs to be changed and inspected for water intrusion.

I think you're exactly right Bob

Mechanic at the dealer is saying it's just fuel but I don't think so.

If you've got fuel coming out under the prop you've got bigger problems than an oil leak.

No doubt. Guess I'll find out when I go down there

I'd really like to just have the hull for a new 115 and be done with it

Or wouldn't the fuel just be excess from the exhaust that was not burned in totality?

Never had a large four stroke outboard with multiple carbs

This boat doesn't look to have wipers either

But the switch for them is there

Do they hang from the top?

Or do any of y'all install them under the windshield?

This place has everything else, sure there's a thread on wipers too

Is there a particular mfg of wipers that I should look for?

Quite a few threads on upgrading from manual

Or replacing blades

Two different brands, AFI and Oregano (sp?)

Assuming they hang from the top

Got to look for pics of your boat's windshields

Guess I need to make a trek up to Crystal River and look at the boats there

That's what I was thinking - just exhaust residue. But let a mechanic check it for you and "guarantee" you that that is all it is.

"Roca" OK, never had a boat with wipers

Cruiser I had was a convertible with only the one helm on the bridge

Never anything fancy or real expensive

I'll check on the wipers, Thanks

Gave my last heavy boat

231 Mako to the kids

Never expected to buy another

So looking for something that we'll keep

Don't want to skimp on anything

Because I have enough to work on already

Promised the little dory I have now to my youngest

It'll be perfect for her

Was just looking outside at it and
remembered I need to replace a trailer roller

Always something 11doh.gif

Still seems like a lot for such an old boat

But...

I'm $23,000 into my 1986 angler but that's with a BRAND NEW 2019 Honda 90 installed with hydro steer and new lowrance hds7 live. 23k is a good deal for that boat assuming the motor has a built of life left in it. Does the boat come with any kind of camper top?

Supposedly only 179 hours

And don't believe there's any canvas

Had heck of a blow yesterday so sea trial today ought to show the boat's true colors

Never been on one of these boats

All the boats of this size plus a bit have been ocean goers and extremely heavy. But that's not what I want these days

I'll let y'all know my thoughts when I get back this afternoon

Exactly what I figured

Got down there and the motor would hardly run

Old fuel

Gave them a list of items I want looked at before my coming back down next week

Including inspecting the oil in the foot

On a good note

Hull looks great...

and there's already wipers and trim tabs
that I didn't see in the pics :D
