psuedo-newbie CD SPECIFIC questions

Quick intro: My name is Mike, I'm a C-Dory Owner wannabe. Well, make that "gonnabe". We had a CD-22 in the family, and a couple sailboats before that. I made the decision just before I retired from the Navy last year to buy a 25 but haven't done so yet. My goal is to have it before Christmas. I decided to go with the 25 v. 22 mainly because I need an enclosed head, prefer non-chemical. Here's my question:

Can somebody PLEASE post / send me a pic of the CD-25 head? How much room is there? Can it be used sitting down (i.e. is there room with the door closed?) It's the ONLY thing I've never actually seen on the CD-25. Also, where is it physically located in the boat? I was under the impression it was in the aft part of the cabin on the port side, but none of the pictures I've seen show a door there!

I got all excited when I saw the Venture 29... until I saw the price tag. I have to agree that the price tag doesn't seem to line up too well with the amenities. It's a nice boat and I'd buy one in a heartbeat if not for the pricetag. So that kicks me back into the CD-25.

Anywho... there's a boat show next month in Hampton. C-Dory will be there and so will I. In the mean time if somebody could talk to me briefly on the head setup in the CD-25 and maybe post a pic or two I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!
Mike

Mike, Welcome,
Head on the CD-25 is Starboard side, aft cabin. there are window for and aft so you can see through from the helm station. Don't remember if when seated you are facing to centerline or aft on the boat. You will probably get more info from one of the big boat owners here. Also, check the link for the C-Dory Mfg at the bottom left of the home page here and check the line drawings on their site.

Thank you for the answer! Nothing will do the job quite like seeing it for real, but between your answer and a couple pictures I found here I'm beginning to get a decent idea. THANKS AGAIN!

Mike,
The head is indeed starboard side aft. The standard head as you are sitting down will face you to port. The room is minimal. Combination head and shower space. There are snap on curtains that give you privacy if needed. I am 5' 10" and when sitting and contempating there is about 4-6" from my knees to the door.
The head is an area that is only occupied minutes of the day (if you are lucky) so a little closeness isn't a big deal as far as I am concerned. It also makes a nice little storage area in the interim.

The head on the CD 25 and Tom Cat 255 are very similar--similar location and outfitting, except the CD 25 has a little less room. Part of the problem for me is that there is less head room in the CD 25 in the head. Yes, you can sit down in the head--and we prefer to shower sitting down also.

Hi Mike,
I have looked in some albums and on the C-Dory site and don't see any line drawings or pictures of the actual head. I find that funny since some folks that own 22's jokingly say your paying $20k extra for a head when you buy a 25  Here are some pics of the area to try and give you an idea.
This first one is from Dr Bob's album. The pic is showing off the rack he mounted on the back wall. I thought the size of the head was the same on the TC and the 25. He made the statement that the 25 is smaller. I think that might be height and not by much.

This picture if you look close on the starboard side you can see the windows that Dave made reference to that you can snap canvas covers on for privacy.

The small window of course is the head. I'm sorry I do not have the exact measurements or an actual picture of the head. I find it enough room for what I use it for and wouldn't want to give up anymore space for that use. It did take a few times to dial in the right spot  if you know what I mean

I think the boat with the most comfortable or spacious area in the head would be the Ranger tug 25.

All boats are very nice and I still can't decide between them which one I like the best. They all are cool boats with there own benefits :smiled
I hope this helps. I certainly understand your excitement. If you still would like more pictures of that specific area I would suggest you get a hold of Charlie at Wefings and have him e-mail you some pictures of that area on each boat. Then buy all three from him :D
His number is 850-670-5815. Go on down to Apalachicola, have a great week and bring home your boat :thup

I found a picture of Grab handles (in the head) in Sea Angles album, This is a real good idea. Still not a picture of the head  but close. A view from a different angle. On the 26 that Tom is talking about I don't think your visability is near as good on the 26 as on the 25. Very important when backing into a slip

I'm about 5'10", and a bit too short according to height/weight charts, and fit fine in the head compartment - sitting or standing. Room to close the door and not hit my knees. I've done the showering sitting and standing, both work fine.

I don't see any point in having the head any larger. The ergonomics work for us. Sorry I don't have any photos of it on hand (we're about 600 miles away from our boat this weekend - visiting the Mom-in-law)... but it is functional. And, like some others, we also installed a closet bar and use it for storage on occasion (especially good as a wet locker).

There is a lot more to the difference in the boats than just the head - another foot of beam makes for much more volume in the cabin.

HTH

Best wishes,
Jim B.

I should have known that asking a group of C-Dory owners to talk about their boats would yeild an immediate and generous response! Thank you for your time! Your pictures and descriptions fit the bill perfectly. All things being equal, I hope to upgrade from "wannabe" to "owner" later this year.

Then I'll get to show off my CD, too! :beer

THANKS EVERYBODY!

Mike

Hi Mike. Welcome to the group! When you get your boat, I want a pix of you IN the head  , just so we can answer this question properly the next time it gets raised!
