Prop Suggestions for Tomcat 24 with 140s

Hey guys. We just picked up a couple of 2003 Johnson 140s to hang on the Tomcat 24. They are just rebadged Suzuki DF140s. Does anyone have suggestions for prop sizes? Thanks for your help!

If they are really the Suzuki 140's--then you will want a SS, stern lifting prop--and it will be higher pitch than most other outboards, because the Suzuki has a lower gear ratio in the lower end. You may want to use someone who will allow trials. I doubt if many if any of the other Tom Cat 24 were fitted with the Suzuki 140's--they are the same block as the 115, thus will not use the same props that the Suzuki 150's use (but I recollect that you have a 140 on your Caracal--so you are familiar with. that block).

Our 24' TomCat a 2003 bought new from EQ Marine was set up with Johnson 140's. Rebranded Suzuki 140's. We traded it in on the 2006 TC255. I don't remember what props it had, but they were stainless steel maybe 19" pitch.
They really made the 24' TomCat fly.

What's the story on the 2003 140's? Hours etc.

I will definitely give Ken a call, thanks. He is right down the road from me. I have heard about propgods, but never talked to them.

I really love my DF140 on the Caracal. One of the reasons we jumped at the opportunity for these twins. I also have a great local Suzuki mechanic. here in town. Thanks for the stern lifting point, I will definitely keep that in mind.

I am glad to hear that the 140s pushed that boat well! I drove down to Naples to buy these motors two weekends ago from a guy that is re-powering his Dusky 256 to new 200 zukes. They have 670 hours, run great, and we got stainless props, wiring, cables, controls and gauges.

I have read that stern lift is important a couple of times now. Has anyone ever tried transom wedges? If we are replacing the motors, it seems like now is the time.

I would give a try with the 22" pitch. It will be close.

Install the outboards "Backward" from usual twins--that is the right rotation on the left and the counter rotation on the right. This also gives more stern lift. From the 25, with 150's no wedges are necessary. I tried permatrims to see if I could get a lower planing speed--not worth the try. The boats pop right up on plane. Depends on loads, but we found 15 was a good speed for lowest. But in chop--you often get a better ride at a higher speed. My only use of a 24 was with the neighbor's boat and he had Yamaha 115's. Boat ran well with those.,

That sounds like a good plan. We will mount those outboards reverse side-to-side. Then try the props we have first and go from there. I think we are leaning towards some 5 degree Bob's wedges, because for zero extra install time and $150, it seems worth it. I'm hoping for a pretty quick fast cruise with these 140s. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for the help!
