Princess Louisa Inlet

Anyone have 2014 plans to make this trip? I estimate somewhere around 180 miles from Washington Park Launch? This is my big 'goal' trip for 2014 :) Kinda of just drooling and planning now. We had a couple multi day cruises that totaled over 100 miles but this would be by far our longest. If any other Brats plan on going next year it might be fun to try to schedule our trip around the same time. :beer

I assumed you HAD to have live aboard plans with that thing, those are awesome boats. I just got my self caught up on your blog, congrats on the purchase!

Sea trial, mechanical survey, and hull survey have gone well. Still waiting for oil analysis results; hopefully they'll come in today. Assuming no problems with the oil analysis, I'll own the boat the first week of November.

On edit: Oil analysis came back clean...now time to write a big check!

yes I imagine so! lol. what is your daily mileage plan? I'd be interested in seeing any stops you make along the way. I'm thinking we'll probably launch out of Anacortes and Make stop #1 around Stuart Island or possibly further up, I haven't decided yet.

The next Canadian C-dory gathering for 2014 is in Pender Harbor. A stones throw away from Princess Louisa. Date as yet to be announced, but I think it is going to be early summer. Bound to be several boats taking in PL and Desolation as well.

Martin.

I may try to coordinate around that then, I like the idea of having a fleet around me while venturing into new places 'just in case' plus the social aspect is great :beer

Daily mileage will be determined later. One of the challenges of winter cruising is short days—literally half as long as summer days. I suspect I'll do three days up and three days back, plus any weather delays.

My initial thought for this winter is:

Anacortes to Ganges, Ganges to Pender Harbour, Pender Harbour to PLI. Then reverse.

Lots of factors could change this, though.

A C-Dory in the summer can cover a lot more ground; Anacortes to Pender Harbour or Egmont in a day is doable in decent weather. Two days up and two days back isn't too difficult, if the weather cooperates.

Pender is just around Cape Cockburn from me. Let me know when the date is, and I'll try to be up there.

Cheers!

Yes! Tentatively planning to visit between Christmas and New Years on my (hopefully) new-to-me Nordic Tug 37.

WOW ! So Sam, are you going to tow the C- Dory as your dinghy ? :-)

I guess I better get caught up with your blog to see what that's all about. That sure would make a nice live aboard.

I am tentatively planning to attend the Canadian CD 2014 meeting at Pender Harbor, and was thinking about running up to PLI thereafter. More than one boat going always makes such trips more interesting. Keep in touch.

We would love to go. We did not make it up there on our Desolation trip; not enough time and too much beauty to see. Only caveat is we need to make plans early to put in for vacation as we are both still working stiffs....

WOW -- Sam, Congratulations. Sure hope we continue to see you around here. Hmmm....PLI between Christmas and New Years. That would be a kick..... albeit a cool one. 8)

DDT -- Great plan. I've been once, would love to go back woth some C-Dory company. FYI, I launched at Sunset Marina, N (or West) Vancouver, and on the way back, to clear Malibu Rapids at the 0530 slack time we left Chatterbox abut 0500, and made it all the way back to Sunset marina on the same day. Long day, with some big water, but we were able to do it by dark time.

OK, So I can't figure out how to do pictures on Windows8 ----Sorry

Thanks Jim.

I was using my brother-in-law's new laptop and W-8 is new to both of us.

Thanks for the compliment on the photo. When we were up there, the ranger said the falls was as large as she had ever seen it. They had had a week of heavy rain. More water, makes the falls bigger, makes better water falls pictures. Lucky I guess.

I was talking to Ian and Jackie (Sea Sprite) who are hosting the Pender Harbor 2014 gathering. They are currently in Australia and will be for the whole of November. I do not know if they are checking in on this forum while they are on vacation. Ian told me he will talk to the marina when he gets back in December and that he thinks June will be the better choice as it gets really busy in July/Aug. Also Princess Louisa and Desolation will not be so crowded in June. That is all I know, and please do not quote me. It is Ian's call.

Martin.
