Port Harvey Resort request

From their Facebook page; (I figured there would be a few here interested)

We have had to apply for an amendment to our Commercial Moorage lease to allow for the retail store and restaurant that we have operated for many years to be allowed to continue operation. We are asking if any people who have visited our facility could send an email supporting this amendment application.
Emails can be sent to diane.elliott@gov.bc.ca with a copy to us at portharveymarine@gmail.com
Subject File 1413024
We really appreciate any support in this, thank you

Tim, Thanks for passing that along here. Quit a few of the CBRATS who have cruised the Broughtons have stopped in at Port Harvey, and (of course I had to..... the name and all), found the service great, the pizza super, and those who were there last season noticed, l'm sure, the missing fish and chips.

And, some of use do not have Facebook so it's nice to see the message (even) second hand.

I'll be sending in an email, and I hope the rest do too.

Tim,
Thanks for the "heads up". E-mail sent, outlining our thoughts about why this should remain an essential resource for boaters in this area of BC.

I received another message today, regarding this. There was a question whether USA residents could respond. George's answer was that we certainly could, and the about 50% of there business came from US, (yes, pun intended), and that they appreciate our south of the border support.

He also asked to send a copy to them as well.

Thanks for the support to those who have. For the rest, if you are northbound by boat into the Broughtons from anywhere south of Campbell River, Port Harvey is one of the first places to stop at a dock, be greated by the nicest folks, and get good food. They are working on rebuilding after a huge setback a year ago when their store and restaurant barge sank.

We support Port Harvey Marine Resort’s application for an amendment to their lease to allow them to continue providing boaters a retail store and restaurant as they have for many years in Port Harvey
Thanks

And this is a letter that Captain Charles Long sent.

Ms. Elliott:

We are writing in support of Port Harvey Marine Resort’s application for an amendment to their lease to allow them to continue to operate a retail store and restaurant as they have for many years. As boaters who regularly spend 2-3 months in Canadian waters each summer, we have come to rely on Port Harvey for supplies, equipment, and a much-needed respite from our own cuisine when making our way up Johnstone Strait. A stop at Port Harvey is always one of the highlights of our summer.

The family-owned and operated marinas in the Broughton Islands provide an invaluable service to the boating community. We strongly support any and all efforts to encourage them and keep them operating.

Sincerely,

Charles and Diane Long
MV Dreamtime

Please take a few minutes and respond to this request.

And it was mentioned that at this time there is no deadline on the request for messages from interested parties, but please don't wait, send a note.

And for the record, I have no financial interest in Port Harvey Marine Resort, just a Brat trying to help some like minded boating folks.

I sent my e-mail and got the same reply today as Harvey.

I encourage anyone who cruises the Broughtons to consider supporting Port Harvey Marina in this. We need all the facilities in that area.

Glad I saw this. I sent on my e-mail and received an auto response.
We would sure hate to see George have any more problems. :sad

I agree, and even if you are considering going north. It's not a requirement to have been there, to send an email. Even if you are just thinking about it, they are worth the stop, and it might even become a habit.

Thanks all,

Harvey

My note got a reply. Hope the nice lady is not being bothered. Not sure from the topic chain if there is some issue at hand but wish them the best. By the way, I hope they were able to get some of the trash and debris out, looked like my backyard!!!

This was from their Face Book, posted by George. They are trying to rebuild their resort after their main barge sunk, and now they are having to go through all the permitting processes again. That is the issue.

Thanks for bringing this up Tim and Harvey. I've not been up there before, but the Facebook page was a good read and inspired a letter of support for a future visit, hopefully within the next year. Harvey's description in the other thread definitely puts this destination within reach of even us lowly weekend warriors!

Mike, Thanks for the support for the Port Harvey folks. They are good people.

And yes, it could be a weekend destination. Because of the ferry ticket I choose to go for more than an weekend, but yes, you could do it in a 16 on a weekend, weather depending, of course. I have seen some incredibly small and diverse boats in the area, and a 16 C-Dory would be way above the qualifications of some of them - (14 ft open aluminum fishing skiff, a 13 ft open row boat, a 17ft Gruman Squareback canoe, a 12 ft open inflatable are the ones that come to mind immediately.)

Good to know Harvey! If making the trip up I would hope to do it taking a week off of work with two weekends giving at least 9 days for travel up, boating, and travel back, towing the 22. But now that you mention it a quick 3 or 4 day trip in the car towing the 16 might be fun too!
