Passagemaker Magazine

My wife and I, we went to the Annapolis Boat Show. I did see alot of boats that had sold signs on them. I did stop at a Passagemaker Magizine display. I asked them about how come there was not any articles about the smaller boats. The reson they said was that no one had submitted artcles about adventure cruising or just cruising in a small boat. Most of the articles are for boats larger than 30+ feet. That is one way to really get the word out. That you do not have to spend 250,000+ to do a long distance cruise. From reading C-Brats, I have noted how many people really do go on long trips. :thup :thup :D

I have been emailing with John Wooldridge at Passagemaker about writing an article on my upcoming Inside Passage trip. He seems interested in the idea, and I'll almost certainly submit an article to them, but who knows if they'll run it. Unfortunately, the trip can't come soon enough!

Actually, Passagemaker did run a little article a couple of years ago that featured Bill and El, and a few other C-Brats you may know (Brent and Dixie and Pat and Patty). It was the February 2007 edition. But sounds like an opportunity for aspiring authors! Maybe some of our Great Loopers ought to write something up!

As Pat said above there was an article on C Dorys and other small passage makers, but I believe at that time C Dory was advertising in Passagemaker. The articles are often tied to having the builders ads in the magazine (which is where the magazine makes its money--not the subscription sales).

Passagemaker is mostly geared toward much more expensive boats. But they have also had an article on Ranger Tugs, which also have advertised.

John Wooldridge covered our 2006 Inside Passage trip (Daydream and Anna Leigh) for Motorboating Magazine, and actually cruised with David on Anna Leigh for a couple of days. Unfortunately (for Patty and me) we flew home from Ketchikan the same day John flew in, so I missed the great dinner out and the photo shoot by Neil Rabinowitz at Allison Harbor. Neil was in the helicopter:

and took this great shot;

Honestly, this cruise was the highlight of the whole time we have owned a C-Dory for me (Patty feels otherwise, but it was for me).

We later learned from Scot Reynolds that C-Dory had to pay for the article. I understand paid ads, but sure do not understand paid editorial content...

If I remember correctly the only cdory featured in the Passagemaker atricle a few years back was Huda Thunkit! (my boat)

They did a spread on "Trailerable Trawlers".

Nope, maybe a different article, maybe call-outs for the same article? The Passagemaker article I am referring to had a little squib on Bill and El, Brent and Dixie and Pat and Patty, and how each couple has done long cruises on a small boat. No pictures of our boats. Bill and El are of course the champions. The magazine is sitting on our coffee table at Birch Bay. It is the February 2007 issue. I will bring it back to Fall City, scan it and post it in the Documents forum here.

We were in Marathon, Fl. when the article came out. We were standing in the West Marine, browsing the magazines and came upon the story. Dixie turned to the guy standing next to her and said "This is Us" and he looked at her like "sure thing Lady" Anyway, that was our 15 minutes of fame. We have had many long cruises in our C-Dory since then and enjoyed every one.

The article I refer to, is the cover story "Trailerable Trawlers" from the May / June 2007 issue!

I guess I could scan it too, if anyone were really interested.

Martin, Where in the heck do you think you are posting? You haven't scanned that for us yet? Yes we are still waiting. Please.

Pat, You too, and thanks to both.

Gee Harvey, I'm sorry.
Give me a couple days as I've got to climb under the tarp once I bat the snow off to retrieve the magazine from the boat library!

I'm quite surprised at even the remotest interest, I thought this was beat thoroughly back then?

Martin.

OK, I scanned the February 2007 PassageMaker article on Small Boat Cruising, you can find it here. Bob Lane got quite a bit of the story of our Alaska trip wrong, but we still enjoyed the story, had no idea it was in the works at all at the time.

The article was accurate from our perspective, except Richfield is in Utah not Nevada. We repeated the BC trip this year. Another great adventure.
