The March issue has an article titled "6 Pocket Cruisers Ready for the Open Road" and the C-Dory 25 is included. Also covered: Acadia 25,Eastern 248, Parker 2530, Ranger R-23 and Rosborough RF-246. The author had some positive words for the C-Dory but also commented on "the hull structure, which compromises the acoustics when running"....
 
First, if you realize there is no perfect boat, can you expect and would you
believe the writer if nothing but positive attributes in an article reviewing any
boat?

Then, about acoustics (aka noise) while running, my experience is almost all
acoustics comes from the engine(s) not the hull.

Further, the C-Dory lapstrake or clinker style sandwich cored hull adds rigidity
and strength not making an acoustical statement, say, as an aluminum hull would
do.

On my 22 I can tell that it is trimmed well by the sound of the water against the hull. If it is correct there is sort of light slapping sound from the water wavelets coming from right about where the bulkhead between the cabin and the v-berth hits the floor. Makes a distinct sound.

Also, with the cabin door open, the sound of my engine is focused at the forward end of the cabin. If you move aft from the helm seat (i.e. closer to the engine), the noise actually goes down some (measured it).

I have tried to find the Passage Maker issue on line. No Joy. And no place on the Olympic Peninsula that I know of carries the paper version. Can anyone post a working link, or the article please.

I think of Passagemaker as a big boat magazine. And it all the boats I've operated, there is some sound at the bow as you go through the water; or aft with the motor running. I haven't read the article, but the fact that you are "right there" while driving any of the C-Dorys seems to me to equate to some noise. I never found it off-putting... or different from the sounds in any other boat its size.

The boat moves through water. Unless you are insulated from the bow/stern (and the C-Dorys are big enough for that), you are going to hear "the sounds of running."

I like the sound of the boat going through the water. To me, it's an indicator of things that are going right or wrong. There's a certain sound when the boat is trimmed correctly and when it's not and once a person can identify those then it's all good.
I also think sound of the water is soothing and it always puts me more in touch of what is happening. I also don't mind engine noise. If I run over a small stick or kelp is fouling the lower unit or prop, then I want to hear the difference in the sound of the engine.
Running a bigger boat where the sound of water and motor is muted would feel a little isolating for me IMHO.

both my 22 Cruisers made splashing noises on the hull. the lapstrake or clinker potion of the hulls are not sandwich construction (only the bottom is sandwich) on the 22, and I would surmise also not on the 25 (but i could be wrong)
 
Want acoustics of water w/o engine noise? Try sleeping in a
lee berth while under sail at night; talk about beautiful music...

Of the boats reviewed, the C-Dory is built the lightest, structurally. Perhaps the heavier construction and layup schedules of the others tends to better muffle all types of sound? Or maybe the C-Dory's flat/planing hull started to bang a little at speed, while the others (semi-d and deep vee) were smoother/quieter moving through the water?
