one wonders why many of us "old timers" around here rarely post much anymore. I certainly am not the only one to notice that fact.

Rick

Well, I'm as old an old timer as anyone, I guess. That's probably why I got hung up on that particular quote. Sometimes we say, or write something and boom, the reaction out of left (or right) field catches us unawares, so to say. Perhaps we can make more use of the "That's Life" forum, and be aware of the "just be nice" axiom in our responses. I can't speak for other old timers, but I have never been one to try to "get even with my teacher by quitting school". I guess I'm just being selfish, because I learn so much from this site, and I care about everyone on it, everyone.

Perhaps this would be a good oportunity to say thank you to the oldtimers who started this great site and made it what it is today. :D :D :D

With the membership #s we have here now however it is inevitable that from time to time there will be a difference of opinion.

Those differences of opinion hopefully give us pause for concideration to weigh options and make better choices in our quest for the perfect boating experiences. :D :D :D

Happy and safe boating to all this summer.

Marty you are one of those old timers that give truth to the saying Old Guys Rule. Thanks for stickin' around

Ain't that the truth! Well, not that Marty is old, but his post is right on. This place is a little bit of home on the internet. Marty said it well. If we all quit posting, the instigators win.

Thanks, Marty and Spike.

Best wishes,
Jim

I had to hunt down the context of the original post, then look up when the most frequent posters joined the list (6 out of the 10 top are before the Nov. 3 2003 date.) Many of those also belonged to the C Dogs (long gone).

A surprising number of the early members still post and are frequent posters--and as Marty says, there is a lot to learn from this list, even for those who have been around here, and boats for a long time.

Any negatives are outweighed by the positives for all of the members of this list. Everyone has something too contribute.

I have been viewing this site since Jan.2009 when I saw my first CD.

I truly believe that the reason for its popularity is the wealth of knowledge, information and experience that the "Old Timers" selflessly take the time to share with the sites viewers. At almost any time of the day or night you can ask a question here and get a response from somebody usually within minutes!

Occasionally members (myself included) may broach topics not CD related and some may find this inappropriate. I think the reason for this may be that because this is such an interactive forum members may think of the C Bratts as their friends even though they may have never met them. If something in the news or in their lives is bothering them or of great interest to them they just want to share it or get a friends opinion.

As a Stingray(boat) owner I have a site on "My Stingray.com" . I do love it but I rarely go on their website except to look at pictures of other Stingrays. The only thing they have that C Bratts doesn't is - you can post a question about your boat and the factory tech department will answer it on your web page. But hey we have Wefings, Kipsap and Les Lampman! :D (sorry if I missed any other dealers who post here).

Chin up " Old Timers" and like Marty said, "don't quit school to spite the teacher"!! :D :D

Peace out, Rob

One of these days I hope to learn to remain silent...

Old timer? Guess I qualify, but don't post often. With my 6 C-Dory fleet and Tomcat all history, there isn't much to write about. I visit daily and it is still my favorite site, but get my excitement from watching son-in-law in his 22 CD pull crab pots in front of our house.

The old timers who built the site and keep it exciting sure get big hugs and thanks from this 92 year old boat nut.

Sawdust

Dusty what a pleasure to see your post. I was worrying that your fingers had gotten so rusty you couldn't type any more. See you over coffee at Les's.

Sawdust - greetings from the great white north! When I saw your post I thought to myself,,, "a 92 year old boat nut" - now theres a guy I could learn a thing or 2 or 3 from about boating! I even peeked at some of your pictures. My biggest fear is not getting old, its getting too old to boat!

I then tried to imagine what a supper human race we would be if each generation knew everything that the previous generation had learned! We would probably know how to walk on water and not need boats! :( --on second thoughts , I like it the way it is! If boats ever do become obsolete though I hope they put a CD in the museum and this website in the archives!

Have a great day Dusty

Regards, Rob

Dusty,

You are an inspiration. Just when I was feeling a bit "old" You just gave me the motivation to plan the next 22 years.

Hope to see Ya next week when we drop by to have our "young" engines serviced.

WOW, do I love this place. Due to life changes, just don't get here often enough, but, every time I do, I learn something new. Sure glad for that. Thanks to everyone here that posts, and special thanks to everyone who has been posting since before 2005. And Also, to the not so old guys who keep this place going.

And to all who keep the "Just be Nice" rule, Thank you for being here and making it such a great place. Yup, we are friends and family, and brothers and sisters in spirit.

Thanks again,

Harvey

Well said, Harvey. As an old timer, original Sea Dog, we visit here every day to keep up with our many C-Dory friends and hear the latest discussions.

We have transitioned ashore now, but still in contact with the water - rafted the Henry Fork of the Snake last week in Idaho and followed the Wind River through my old home state of Wyoming - where I proposed to El (and she accepted!!!). So, though transitioned from C-Dory cruising we remain active outdoors and stay in contact with the water.

This site is still 'home' - a place of sharing and where folks are simply 'nice.' Thanks to the caretakers and founders.
