Oh, No No No, David - NOT a "Vacation"!

Well, as long as you know you are not on "vacation," I am happy you are in Lahaina. I wish we were in Lahaina, as they say, "The weather is here, wish you were beautiful." Go by the store Take Home Maui and see if Lee Munimitsu is there, he is (or was) the owner, and was my college roommate a hundred years ago...Maybe one day I will get to not be on vacation and go to Maui. Damn. Better than any old Garbage Day.

Actually right now we are not on vacation in Lahaina, Maui. We have been here all week watching whales and touring the island. Today we go back to Oahu to spend the weekend at a friends house in Kailua, sorry to miss David and Kate. We could have had a great discussion on the drawbacks of not being able to take vacations anymore....

Definition of vacation on the Web: leisure time away from work devoted to rest or pleasure

Well, let's see. Twenty-four years ago El and I quit our jobs. Maybe I feel a little argumentative, Pat, but by the definition you posted for a vacation, ("leisure time away from work devoted to rest or pleasure)", we have been doing exactly that definition - and for about as long as we were in the work world. We have been well away from work.

Anybody else going to celebrate the 25th anniversary of retirement next year? We'd love to join and lift a vino, in the cockpit, to the goddess Dionysus.

Let me make sure I have this right.

If you are working, (have a job) a vacation is doing just the opposite (not working).
So if you are retired, (not working) a vacation is doing just the opposite. Would that be get a job (working)?

Only if it's fun!

Bill,
I retired from the Air Force in 1987, so only one more year and I will catch up with you! How about a toast in Sep at Lake Powell?

All you good people that ARE still working. Keep at it. The Social Security fund needs it. So do us non vacationers that are not working and evidently can't ever go on vacation again. Hope this doesn't ruin the mood for our trip to Maui.

Thanks for the concern. We are about 10' above sea level and maybe one mile inland in Kailua, Oahu. I feel safe here but there have been evacuations. We are waiting to see what happens on Kona, it should hit there any minute and then here thirty minutes later.
