First, a sincere and most heartfelt “Thank You” to all those who have been so kind and patiently answered my questions, especially to Tracy Munson and Marc Groves (a superlative dealer with a classic sense of humor).

About three o’clock this morning after turning the question over and over in my mind, I have decided to abandon the idea of purchasing a new boat. For many years I have had a dream of exploring the many beautiful waterways, fishing and enjoying nature and the sea from whence we all came.

I considered the cost, certainly not insignificant but not insurmountable, the time my wife and I would have to enjoy the boat and the clincher on the question, my physical infirmity and stamina. My old boat was considerably smaller and I painfully remember wrestling it on and off the trailer by myself, working many hours to maintain it and the exhaustion after trailering it for miles to reach a navigable body of water. Now, threescore and ten plus almost two, I know that my strength and agility would be tested to the maximum to handle an even larger boat and motor.

Thus, I reluctantly made my decision to simply visit your forums from time to time and vicariously enjoys the adventures you portray. The C-Dory boats are special and, as I have learned, so are the people who embrace them as a way of life. While I will not attend the North Carolina Gathering or the Gulf Coast Gathering, please reserve a place for my spirit, which will be with you.
Stay well and journey wisely, my friends, and thank you,
Chuck McKinney (Cker)

With a great attitude like that, you don't have to have the boat to be a Brat. Stick around...as you said, the company is fine.

Sorry that you don't feel like the purchase of a boat is in the picture for you at this time. But, you should feel free to come to any of the gatherings. I am sure that you would find a ride and some fun meeting the folks. You might even find that getting these boats on and off the trailer is not as difficult as you might think.

If you are ever in the Pensacola area, drop on by for a ride on one of the boats.

Take care

Cker,

I am three score and ten and successfully wrestle my 26' C-Dory on and off the trailer myself. It really is not that hard to do using a little common sense.
If you ever make and expedition to the Kenai Penninsula in Alaska please stop by for a boat ride. It has to be between late April and late Sept. though for obvious reasons.

Chuck, just because you have made the decision to not purchase right now does NOT mean you have to deny yourself the pleasure of hanging out with like minded folks and eating seafood and cruising around on boats with willing skippers . If you re think the Gulf Coast Gathering , we will welcome you to our family. I have enjoyed our correspondence and hope you might visit anyways !

OK there's 1,2,3,4 and here's #5.

If you get out to the PNW and get past rogerbum's offer, here is another offer for a ride out Juan de Fuca way. We would be honored to share SleepyC for a run.

Stick around here, I have enjoyed your postings, common sense and nautical knowledge, and I love the "Cker" Cool name. Re-re-think the gatherings. Nobody's going to twist your arm (too much) and we all grow from the sharing.
