First, a sincere and most heartfelt “Thank You” to all those who have been so kind and patiently answered my questions, especially to Tracy Munson and Marc Groves (a superlative dealer with a classic sense of humor).
About three o’clock this morning after turning the question over and over in my mind, I have decided to abandon the idea of purchasing a new boat. For many years I have had a dream of exploring the many beautiful waterways, fishing and enjoying nature and the sea from whence we all came.
I considered the cost, certainly not insignificant but not insurmountable, the time my wife and I would have to enjoy the boat and the clincher on the question, my physical infirmity and stamina. My old boat was considerably smaller and I painfully remember wrestling it on and off the trailer by myself, working many hours to maintain it and the exhaustion after trailering it for miles to reach a navigable body of water. Now, threescore and ten plus almost two, I know that my strength and agility would be tested to the maximum to handle an even larger boat and motor.
Thus, I reluctantly made my decision to simply visit your forums from time to time and vicariously enjoys the adventures you portray. The C-Dory boats are special and, as I have learned, so are the people who embrace them as a way of life. While I will not attend the North Carolina Gathering or the Gulf Coast Gathering, please reserve a place for my spirit, which will be with you.
Stay well and journey wisely, my friends, and thank you,
Chuck McKinney (Cker)
