Noob C Dory question #2 - radar.

No you do not need radar on the lakes. You can get radar for less than 3 K. I have a lot of experience with radar over a period of 40 years. I have it on my boats for running in fog, and at night.
 
Only if you will be boating in fog or minimal visibility conditions. I have radar on my 22, and have used it. Both on the Great Lakes and on some Rivers, such as the Columbia! Probably not necessary on smaller inland lakes, unless you plan to go out in the fog. Colby
 
You can get used radar units for under a grand. Yes, it will be an older one, but it will get the job done. A Furuno 1623 the I was following just went for ~$630 on eBay.
