Night vision

Have been looking at night vision devices- either binoculars or single lens models. Bushnells seems to market a number of different devices-anyone have any recommendations/experiences with these devices.

Thanks!

Ken- I'm not an expert on night vision, but here's a good start:

Night Vision, From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

and

New Night Vision Technology
Cameras that Measure Relative Heat

On Edit: West Marine used to have a very good section o the three generations of night vision devices (that preceded the cameras discussed in the second article above), but you'd have to find an older catalogue to access it. There are huge differences in cost between the three difference generations/levels of technology. You probably don't need a $3500 device to find the harbor entrance at night, fortunately!

No question if you want the best for the price--go with FLIR Infra Red, @ $1999.

A generation 2+ light amplification might be cheaper, but the FLIR will show more important items because of temperature differential.

I own a Gen 1+ device, and if I still had a large boat the FLIR would be my next purchase. Price has recently come down--may come down more in the next few years...
