I am interested in a C Dory 25. I want to use it on the Tenn River to do some travelling maybe down to Mobile Bay and maybe into Florida.

Any of you out there have any suggestions as to what to look for?
There are a couple used 25 footers on this website that seem very nice.

Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Roger

Go look at some of the boats for sale. A trip to Apalachicola would be a good place to start. Marc Grove often has a couple of used 25's for sale. There are also some private sales.

The C Dory25 is ideal for what you want to do. You have to have an adequate truck for towing the boat. Personally I prefer to trailer the boat rather than do the TennTom Bigby waterway, between the Tennessee River and the Gulf Coast states.

There are some changes in the boats thru the years, and thus you may want to look at several. The hulls are all the same, but fuel fill, holding tanks, heads, cabin interior construction vary.

Thanks Dr. Bob.

ROGER,

Im selling my 07 CD 25 with a 200hp Suzuki. I'm located in Massachusetts. Here's a video of my boat. My loss will definitely be someones gain....and I really hope its a C Brat! My baby has to go and I'm willing to offer another discount to help with shipping and/ or survey costs.

Thank you all for the info

Jason..I may want to take a look at your boat still doing some thinking about all this

As far as towing what size truck would you need ? or what towing capacity ?

I am looking at finding a dealer closer to me so I can actually take a look at one and be sure it is what I want

Thanks

Roger

Roger,

Ideally you'll need a V8 truck.

You may be able to look at some other 25's in Tennessee . I think there are some C Brats that may be closer to you than a dealer and would let you look at their boat.

You need more than a V8 truck...you want towing capacity of about 9,000 lbs. This usually equates to a 3/4 ton truck, although some for the 1/2 tons can do it with a heavy duty towing package and transmission cooler. For example I have a 1/2 ton Yukon XL, with the 5.8L V8 and tow package--it overheated the transmission on a grade towing my son's 25. He bought a Tundra 1794 edition which has a better transmission cooler and it tows it OK. The more weight in the truck, the better tow vehicle for the 25. Just as important, you need braking capacity.

Unfortunately there are very few dealers for c Dorys. The two closest to you are in Florida and Coastal N.C. There is one listed in Michigan, which I know nothing about. Dealers may not stock the boat you are interested in. I agree that you are best off trying to find a local C Brat to take you for a ride. You can go to the C Brat map in the header, and find a 25 near you--ask the owner if he could show you his boat--most will oblige.

We are going up the Tenn. River in Sept--and most likely, my friend with an older 25 will be with us. If you have not found a boat by then--that would be an opportunity for you to see and ride in one.[/quote]

As far as a tow rig many of the newer 1/2 ton pick ups have the 9,000+ pound tow rating you need.
For instance, our first generation 2013 Ecoboost F150 and with economy (3.31) gears is rated at 9,400 lbs.
