Hello every one,

My name's Jeff, and I have been looking at this site for over a year, but only recently registered. Your site, its helpful members, and the "kinship" I felt with the members here all contributed to me purchasing the very first boat in my life yesterday: a 22' Cruiser, used, through Bob and Marie Austin.
The Austin's typified the members here on the site: helpful, informative, knowledgable and very kind. They hosted this unknown tattoo'd man in their RV, took me out on the boat, sat with me and educated me in all aspects of the boat and seamanship, took me to West Marine to purchase for me additional necessities needed including "Chapman's Seamanship" and helped me down to the basics such as how to tie knots. Further, we took it to a mechanic to fix a motor problem and he handled all expenses so as to transfer the boat in A-1 condition and even had the part overnighted at extra cost so I would not waste any of my boating summer.

The boat is just as wonderful as I dreamed it would be for over the year I was searching for "it." That's a hard expectation to meet btw.

I'm off to Lake Mead in a few days then I'm off to get salty in the Catalina's and I will be looking to expand my knowledge here and possibly hook up with some fellow C-Brat's over time. Already talking of cruising up to Alaska next summer with the Austin's.

Wish me luck as I "jump-in" to your world here and if I don't sink her the first few times out, I am sure I will be here for a long time coming....

Jeff-

Welcome aboard!

Sounds like your an avid new boater ready to jump into the full swing of boating adventures. It's great having a new enthuisiastic member who just can't wait to get his boat into the water and enjoy the new toy. I know you'll love your C-Dory as all the rest of us do!

You're right abo ut Bob and Marie Austin! They're a class act and a model for the rest of us to follow. They have years of experiences and adventures behind them and are happy to share t heir knowledge with us all.

We'll offer to help you in any way we can, just ask!

Glad to have you as part of the C-Dory Family!

Joe.

Hello Joe,

Thanks for the kind reply and welcome. Now, if I could just retire as I believe you are (from your pic caption) and as Bob and Marie are, I would really be set, but for some darn reason California thinks 44 is too young to retire !?

Jeff

Hi Jeff, welcome aboard. The first thing you need to do, you've done, got a C-Dory. The second thing you need to do is go cruising with several of us here in So Cal to the islands. You'll learn a great deal in just a couple of evenings relaxing with any of us while BBQ'ng your dinner.

Then you need to, no must, sign up for the Catalina Adventure in Paradise 2006 cruise coming up in August. You'll meet almost all of us in your neighborhood and a few others in one fell swoop. Again, a hearty welcome.

Hello Steve and thanks for the welcome.

Well, if you and the rest of the C-Brats are like the Austin's, you can count me in!
But I can't wait to get motoring! Leaving for Mead today to see if I can launch, boat then retrive, and if so, I am off to the Islands next week!

Any suggestions for Marina's to stay at for a week or so as "home-base" in the LA - San Pedro - Long Beach area????

But I will keep looking to meet up with local C-Cory owners and gain from their experience as I am a sponge in that regard!

Sincerely,
Jeff
