Hi Everyone,

I'm Russ, my wife, Jean, and I just bought a 2008 22' Cruiser. I'm amazed at the volume and impressive content some of you have shared with the group. I can see quite a bit of engineering time went into these projects. Good ole american ingenuity at its best. I see many custom racks, shelves, curtains and such fastened in some way to the bulkhead or roof. I'm hesitant to drill my 1st hole anywhere. How are these things attached? It doesn't look like there is enough thickness to attach screws. Are some of the attachments using thru-bolt? I haven't been in the water yet but look forward to the day. Thanks for any assistance you con provide.

Congrats on the new boat and welcome to the C-Brats.

Regarding your question, I try to use thickened epoxy to attach things to a side wall as it is only 1/4-3/8" thick. The roof on the TC is cored so I can use 1/2" screws in most places.
I have seen some through bolting in the roof on other models. Properly sealed, that shouldn't be a problem other than esthetics.

There are lots of albums to study and a PM to the owners will usually get an answer on their methods in short order.
 
Russ and Jean, Welcome and congrats on the new boat. It should provide many hours of comfortable pleasure. you are living in a beautiful area, and lots of great boating opportunities close. Enjoy and hope we get to cross wakes some time. (Plan now for the fall C-Brat Get Together CBGT at Sequim Bay State Park next September.)

Lots of good company here. Ask Tyboo or DaNag for a photo album, and they will set it up, then you can show off your boat, projects and trips.

Looks like there are several new owners in the Portland area. Maybe time for a Portland CBGT is coming.

Thanks all for the welcome and information, we do appreciate it. Yes, we do make wine and find it to be a fun hobby. I like to try new recipes and when we find one we like try to repeat it. Good fruit, cleanliness and process control are key.
I have Garmin electronics on order and anxiously wait the delivery. I've read several posts on the sump well on the 22' CD some say that area is void of balsa. I plan to use an in hull transducer because we have twin 40 Hondas and I didn't think there is room for a transom mount.
We have two boats at our house right now which I'm sure the neighbors are thrilled about. So, if you know anyone in the Portland area looking for a real nice 2002 17' Arima Sea Ranger with lots of extras let me know.
 
Welcome aboard, and congratulations! I agree with Roger, about using epoxy to fasten blocks for attatchments. I have used a combination of 5 minute, in several places, and regular, thickened with cabasol, which kicks off to get the real strength. Some folks have used 5200 for adhesion of blocks.

Be careful of the roof. Various boats have core in different areas. Some have core in the center, some on the sides. Not sure if any have core on both the center piece and outer sides of the roof.

I have also attatched items using screws in the window frames--replacing the screw with a slightly longer one, which holds a curtain snap etc.

Spend time in the archives, and look at the various poster's albums, you will get a lot of idea, since many of the projects are covered in detail.

My 22, which also has twin Honda 40s, came with not one but two transom-mounted transducers! I have only heard of shoot-through transducers on Tom Cats and no in-hull installations on any C-Dory. Not to say it can't be done, but I would suggest asking around here about transom mounts before going to the expense, etc. of an in-hull unit.

Had to chuckle at your quote above. The neighbors near boat lovers must be a tolerant bunch, for sure. Rather than get rid of any, I thought you might be interested in my solution... grow a tall hedge of laurel, put a gate in, and hide your boat(s) behind it. I get to keep all the boats and the neighbors don't have to deal with it! Just joking... lucky for me, the hedge was here when I moved in. But now, they all have to wonder what's hiding behind the gate! :lol:

Thanks for your response Warren. When I read the Air Mar transom mount instruction it recommended the starboard side of the motor. I have trim tabs right in that space. The instruction didn't say you could mount between two engines it stated the starboard side of the motor due to prop interference. Where are yours mounted relative to the center line and the outboards?

That is a good question because I am going to be installing Bennett Trim Tabs soon and I don't know how that will affect the transducers. But I know there are several guys running 40s and Bennetts that have transducers as well. Hopefully they will see this thread and comment.

I have twin Suzuki's and the Bennett trim tabs. I have a spped sensor and a transducer mounted between the motors, and it works just fine. The boat is not near me to get a measurement, however I believe the transducer is just right of the center line.

Like yours, our boat has twin 40 Hondas. It also has Bennett trim tabs. Both the transducer and speed sensor are mounted on the back edge of the starboard trim tab. No holes in the boat at all and it works just fine. I recommend that method of mounting. It's in the water right now or I would take a pic for you.

We'll be pulling her out later this week to attend the 4th Annual Gulf Coast Gathering. If you would like I will take a pic of it then and post in our album.
