New iPad!

Pat, I have to disagree with you. There is a port on the bottom of the I pad. It is used for charging the battery, for usb connection to any computer and syncing and for downloading of photos from a SD card. I have not validated, but have heard of rumors of jailbreaking the ipad and downloading other material as well as tethering to a phone. I did find several articles on doing that. I agree that the i pad works fine with MiFi, which is the way I have used mine so far, since I already have the MiFi, rather than sign up the G3 service.

Currently using Sprint EVO - w unlimited data on the phone and also as a HotSpot Wifi for $30 extra bucks a month [for MacBook or Win] , works great in Puget Sound, Seattle, I 90 to Spokane most areas, and no problem w reception most of the time on BC coast to Desolation Sound. Limit data in canada to marinas w wifi due to cost, Last summer enroute to Desolation Sound we were not charged for text messages - in Canada -= so we sent GPS location w message frequently for free to those at home. We were charged of course for voice calls - Android has some advantages around the US border when you want to use GPS without turning on cellular network that will pick up Canadian towers. [Iphone]

The EVO can be 3G or 4G wifi hot spot, depending on area. I have tethered 5 devices at one time [8 are allowed].
On 3 G in S Sound we ran one Win machine - emails and surfing, one Mac Laptop -emails and surfing, Two Ipods pulling down Pandora and one Iphone also running Pandora.

So any Apple, Mac, Win, Android wifi tablet, or device should be able to access internet via Sprint EVO Hotspot or Sprint Samsung smartphone for $30 over the usual cell fee. Our family will eventually purchase one ipad2 and one android tablet - both will run off the Evo - also w this set up landline at home is not necessary.

For those that want to save more: and can get "by" w a Mac or Win Notebook instead of a tablet, they can save the $30 hotspot fee, and tether w PDAnet via USB, just using the phone unlimited data plan.

Great to have options.
Jim

Well, OK, the charging/sync port IS a physical port and you probably can do anything with a jail-broken iPad no doubt, so I retract that last statement!

I think PDANet on a jail-broken iPhone and some app on a jail-broken iPad would be the cat's meow!
