New face in the crowd

Hello c-brats I just bought a c-dory 22 crusier 2007. Vessel name is c doggie soon to be Fire Escape. Took it on our first trip to Flaming Gorge it is a very nice boat. We need to do some minor mods to it and it sounds like this is the place to get the ideas. First is a bigger heater, possible a Force 10 or Dickinson fireplace. Any way this is my first post and I am sure I will learn alot here.

If you don't get needed answers to your questions here they will have to have been pretty much unanswerable

And if you haven't already searched you will find a wealth of information on most any boating subject if you do.

Live not to far from you in mountain state miles and occasionally make it to Flaming Gorge. Hope to see your there some time.

That Dickinson fireplace looks cool. Just click on search towards the top of the page, type in heaters, hit enter and you will have hours of information to read as well as a long debate on what type fuel to use in them :lol: If you see a post from anyone about their heater installation just click on the blue (usually boat name) text on the left and it will take you to their photo album and you can look at their pictures <---and get ideas. There is also the library under forums (again at the top of the page) you can look in.
These are cool boats!! Have a great time !!

Welcome to the C-Brats. FYI...Robbi who owns a 19' C-Dory has a Dickinson heater mounted on her vessel. You can see several pix of it on page 2 of her photo album.

Welcome Aboard.....I am sure you will enjoy your new boat as much as all of us. You say you need a "bigger heater" which would imply you have a heater on board now. What type of heater do you have?

OK Dave, I know his stock went up a few points just by the name of his boat!! :mrgreen:

Many safe travels, and put that boat on a trailer and make some gatherings. Time well spent and great folks...or, just make your reservations under the event sign up list for the Seattle Boat Show Extravaganza or something to that effect. Many of us gather in a Non-boat status and just have a blast! Hope to see your there.

You say you need a "bigger" heater but you don't say bigger than what - what is it you have? If you have a Wallas, I doubt you really need a bigger heater on a CD22! The Wallas is ample for our CD25.
 
Robbi will have to answer for sure, but I think it uses the little 1 lb canisters rather than bulk propane...

I use propane to cook with...and looked at the small Propex forced air heater that is propane...but it looks like it uses a bunch of propane...and so now I am looking at the Wallas heater.... I just don't know where I would mount the Dickerson heater.... I have their stove and love it...
I have a 1 gallon tank mounted in the lazarette ...fine for cooking but that heater uses 3 gallons for 8 hours of steady running.... I don't have a clue what that would mean on a 22 where the heater would only be on 10 or 15 minutes at a time.... but definitely would require a larger tank for any extended cruising ....

Why not go to the Seattle Boat Show with us and look at all the heating options.... that's what we are going to do..

Brother John- Haa! Another firefighter!

I installed a force 10 cozy cabin heater. Put it under the counter top behind the double doors with a removable counter top section. The only clue that its there is a copper chimney that runs straight up. Runs on disposable 1Lb cylinders that are in the port lazarette. I just ran hose to it.
It works....Saved my bacon from freezing on Isle Royale this Spring. A portable propane camping stove for cooking and making coffee. I keep the windows open for that. Maybe in some of my photos you can make out the chimney. I hardly use the heater even in the 40s if its sunny the cabin is like a sun room. When its really cold the heater is super nice to warm wet cold hands. Lots of heaters out there I wouldn't rule out an RV heater either.

Thinking about the 5-10 lb bottles so they last thru the night were we go it gets below freezing. As we said we went to Flaming Gordge even with a heater and a warm sleeping bag it was still a little cold. So i think 5-10 lb bottles would work perfect.

Sure is nice to see another boat in Utah. I will being going to Powell next weekend and then to the Gorge on Thanksgiving weekend. Last year at the Gorge I was using my Crestliner got down to 18 degrees, just a little cold. This year I'll be in the C-Dory with the Wallas. I picked the Wallas because of the runtime on a gallon of fuel and it is a direct vent heater. Like some of the others above have said go to SBS and you will be able to see lots of different ways to heat your boat. Last year I went there and there sure is a big difference in the 2 markets kind of expected that. Cause you will not see anything at the SLC boat show. I'm looking forward to Lake Powell this winter. Zero people on the lake and all the exploring I can get. Hope to see you out there.
