I liked the old C-Dory site better, easier to navigate. Sorry, but I don't see any improvements compared to the old site.

It is different and we have been using the old site for over 20 years..so old dogs. For example to put a photograph in a post, all you have to do is click on the "picture icon" and upload the photo directly. Done.

It is easier to find new posts: Check on the right of "What's new", and then click on "new posts". There are now "ikes" for good posts.

A host of other good and new features. Keep trying it, and you will find out there are some positives, but there are certainly some rough areas still, which will be resolved by our volunteer moderators--who spend their time and treasure on making this site work.

To be honest with you @KevinDU, I liked a lot about the previous site format, too. It is probably nostalgia mostly, but the old familiar place was comfortable to use after so many years. Keep in mind I like the new place much better for a lot of reasons, but I understand how change can be annoying.

The biggest reason for such a drastic change was security. Da Nag can speak much better on the subject but my understanding is that there was no way to retrieve all the data and rebuild the site if some bad character were to poison the code and wipe things out. Couple that with the inability to use secure transfer protocol with the previous software and it was almost an invitation for malicious attacks. I always got a little nervous the second or third time we kicked off a particular spam or phishing bot thinking the thing might get mad and go all nerdy on us.

It may sound as if I almost know what all that means but I really don't and I am too old to start learning. All I know is that if you click on your browser's address bar it will reveal https: where it was http: without the s before. Even if one of us ticks off some kid in Russia and the whole place gets blown up, Da Nag can fix it. That's why he gets the big chair while I click around the site aimlessly.

So please don't give up and trust that we are still looking into ways to bring back what we can of the original personality. Well, now that he is back from globe trotting Da Nag is looking into ways to fix things up and I am looking into ways to bug him about it.

After 20 years of almost daily & at times more than daily, being on the old site, this one with all it’s advantages does take some getting used to. The thing is as Taboo emphasized, without the change, all the old would have eventually been lost, so I’m very grateful for all the time & effort put in to save what was in the old, while making so many useful upgrades in the new.

So far the only actual kink, I’ve encountered in our new site, involves the change over of photos with the present & it’s severe.

I built and maintained a web site for international discussions about "Forest Soils" sourced at the U Washington for decades, so I am somewhat familiar with what is involved in creating and managing sites. That sprang from the privilege (?) of seeing what could potentially be done with networked computers during my stint at Oak Ridge Nat Lab (1985-87), where I had an ARPANET account (the FIRST), and then an NSFNET, and then BITNET accounts. These were pretty much word only, images were difficult and speeds slow, but communication at that time was mostly about words, and it was so much easier communicating when one could read (sometimes translate) in your own time. Followup voice and visits could and did happen.

I miss those times when we didn't even know about the word SPAM!

Over the years, I have found C-Brats to be one of the most useful assets I have regarding my CD22, initially CD-less and researching what boats of different types would and wouldn't do, things to look for in buying one, and how to maintain and improve it for my specific needs, which are still evolving. I inherited a low gunwale, center-console crabbing boat from the Chesapeake when my waterman father died, and rapidly found that it was a wet and cold boat to have here. C-Brat's experience with different boats and C-dories helped me pick my CD22.

A site is only as good as the people that contribute their time, effort, and knowledge to it. I am nostalgic too for the old site, but this one is easier to use in many respects and keeps a place for us to share knowledge and experience. Keeping all of those old posts is critically important. I often type in a search term and reread things. Posting images is easier. Visiting this site is a daily treat for me, and I am a little disappointed when there are no new posts. I hope old members will continue to post, and that we will continue to gain new members.

Alternatives? Well, there are other good boat sites that consider boats, but not specifically C-Dories. The specific C-Dory site on Facebook? Well, that site has some information, but I find I need to spend a lot of time wading through crap to find it, and am almost always disappointed when I visit. Well, I just got back from hiking in New Hampshire, we had some major storms here in South Puget Sound, and I guess I getter get the chain saw and rakes out and clean up. I will be back in the water soon, weather permitting.
