New C-Dory Owner

Friday we bought a leftover demo 2008 25 Cruiser with twin Honda 90's from a former C-Dory dealer in NJ. Right now the boat is having a camper enclosure made and getting set up on a trailer and then it will be moved to Huron, Ohio for electronics.

The reason for taking it there is we've had the same guy rig electronics on our last two boats and always had great results.

Over the years we've had a few pontoon boats, a Chrysler 19 ft open bow, a Starcraft Islander 224, a Searay 280 Sundancer, A Doral 330 SE, and the last boat was a Searay 400 Sundancer. Now we live on a small Ohio lake where we have a pontoon boat and will dock the C-Dory.

We plan to retire in a year and trailer the C-Dory to some of the places we cruised in our other boats like the North Channel, the interior rivers, etc.

Although we are long time boaters, this will be our first pilot house boat and we're looking forward to the ability to trailer and the lower cost of ownership the 25 foot size represents.

We looked at Rosboroughs and even briefly considered a Ranger Tug but liked the location of the head in the C-Dory better than the Rosborough and the price of the C-Dory better than the Ranger Tug.

When we decide on a name for the boat and get it in the water we'll post photos and share this startup experience but just wanted to thank the hosts of this site and all of the people who have contributed information and photos. It has been a great resource as we've made our purchase decision.

Congratulation on following the example of several hundred C-Brats (and others). You picked the C-25 for the same reasons as we did: Cheap (er, not to be denied,) cabin, trailerable, etc. All of those attributes allows the boat to be used and that's what a boat is for.

We went to Marina del Rey, in LA and saw the thousands of boats in their slips (at $12/ft/mo) and were happy to have Our Journey. You'll enjoy your boat also, along with the learning pains. How was the mileage on that Searay 400 Sundancer? Again welcome to sanity.

You can now join in the discussion on how to tow that boat. You certainly don't need 4-wheel. See, I've already started the discussion.

Jeff and Deborah: Thanks for joining our forum and congrats on your boat. I feel sure you will love the boat and you should get many great days on the boat, particuarly the ones when you may have stayed off the boat or at the dock due to not having the cabin. Many, many great days out in the rain and cold weather. Sorta like having your private waters at times.

We often loaded up my TC24, CD16 or CD18 and departed when others stayed at the docks. I guess I easily doubled or tripled the days away from the docks once I got into the cabin boats.

My wife Sherryl likes my Rosborough we built with the head back in the cabin area better than the traditional placement too. Now, I just need to get down to one Rozy... and then pick up an older fix-me up CD22. I have yet to own my own CD 22.

Come on down to the Cumberland River area once you are all fixed up. Loved the waters in the Cape May area when I was up that way for a spell.

Congrats again...and welcome.

Welcome to the C-Brats, and now, you might not ever need another boat  and when you get a chance, be sure and join in at a CBGT (C-Brat Get Together) to put some faces together with the names.

Welcome. Sounds like you went through a similar decision making process that my wife and I did recently. We bought our 2008 CD 26 for much the same reasons that you list and we love it. The pilothouse is great and really extends the use of the boat even down here in north Florida. Enjoy the boat!

Welcome aboard Jeff and Deborah,

I hope you will enjoy your 25 as much as we have been enjoying ours. They are amazingly versatile small boats that allow you to travel in a large way. We look forward to hearing about your adventures with your new boat. Oh, and photos... we really like photos here. :D

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Welcome aboard!

Yikes, that makes FOUR, count 'em, FOUR C-Dory's here in Ohio! My wife and I own Valkyrie, a CD 22 cruiser that we dock in East Harbor, in the western basin. There is also a fairly new 22 Angler in Huron and a 22 cruiser in the Cincy area and now you in western Ohio. If you ever plan on going up to Lake Erie, send us a PM and we could get togther.

Rgeards,

Nick and Marcia

We kept our Doral at Marina del Isle in East Harbor and our 400 in a prvate slip at Bar Harbor. Always enjoyed going over to Leamington Ontario, the islands, etc. It's a great place to boat...

Thanks for all the responses...

We're just down the road from Marina Del Isle at Bass Haven. We love Leamington, too, but Scudder Marina on Pelee is our favorite for just kickin' back. Hope we can get together some time.

I didn't mention one of the things that attracted me to the C-Dory. In 2006 we made a two week trip from our boat slip in East Harbor on Lake Erie up to the North Channel. When we were coming back on Lake Huron after passing Saginaw Bay the wind was strong from the Northeast and we were the only pleasure boat out that we had seen for the past 100 miles. Then off to starboard towards the Michigan Coast I saw a small boat going steadily against the wind and churning waves that were keeping most people off the lake. I couldn't make out the boat so I took a photo and when I got home enlarged it on my computer.

I thought at the time that when and if we decided to move to a smaller boat I definitely wanted to look at the C-Dory. The photos follow. Perhaps someone recognizes the boat...

There are some brackets in the cabin of our 2008 25 Cruiser that I'm sure are there for a purpose but I don't know what that purpose is. There are 2 large brackets in the cabinet under the galley sink and some smaller brackets in the v-berth hanging below the shelf that lines the wall above the berth.

Anyone know what they're supposed to hold?

Our 25 came with the anchor light post mounted in the brackets on the port side of the v-berth. Since we have a factory radar arch which came with an anchor light, it is just backup. Not sure about under the galley sink - we don't have any factory installed brackets there, unless they were to hold the macerator hose.

How are you doing with the new boat?

Best wishes,
Jim B.

The brackets in the bottom photo: the two "c" shaped brackets are for the anchor (or all around) light (al) for storage when not mounted on the pilot house roof (phf); the round threaded "bracket" is for the cap that goes on the anchor light mount on the phr when the al is mounted on the mount on the phr - handy storage for a small losable item. This verbiage is somewhat confusing but when the al is outside the cap is inside and vice versa
The bracket in the upper photo - a CD 25 owner needs to chime in; nothing like this on a CD 22
