New business, logo, etc.

On my bucket list. Build a really nice wooden boat. Probably won't happen because I'm busy playing with old aluminum boats, my C-dory and antique trucks.

Nothing moves through the water or feels as good as wood, rowed, sailed, or powered.

Good luck on your endeavor.

Bshillam,

I built a 20 ft 4 in IB Bartender from a frame kit for a 19, by inserting another frame midships, and fairing the frames, about the only way to achieve that length at the time (2006). The 20.5 ft Bartender design you are starting on is a big improvement on what i built. I think you will be very pleased with it. Bill Childs is just finishing a 19 ft runabout Bartender, pictures on the BT Facebook page. Wish I were as talented and clean a builder as Bill.

Have fun with it. They are great boats, and extremely well suited for rough water. We loved ours, now owned by a fellow in Portland. Keep us posted with reminders of your progress!

Congratulations! I always admire wooden boat builders. It is truly an art form. Lots of hard work--and satisfaction. Good luck with the endeavor, and we all will love to see photos of the first major build!

Congratulations on the new shop. I built a stitch and glue kayak on a whim. I was soon made aware of the skill and labor needed to build any
thing that is intended to float, move through water with efficiency and grace and be a piece of art all at once. Pales in comparison to the work you are undertaking. As an aside, your subject line included a mention of your logo. As a graphic artist of some 40 years I would be interested to see your logo.
Good luck
Chris

Hello brat family,
Things have been busy. But I wanted to share several new developments. One I have a new website, www.pnwboatworks.com and lots of new pictures on facebook. Chines completed. Moving onto the sheer in the next few days.

Hope all is well with everyone. Cheers
Bryrick

It's been awhile since I last posted, sorry things have been busy. New website for the business,
www.pnwboatworks.com
also still looking for a logo/graphic designer for something very simple.

What a great morning, check out the Sheer. I was surprised to see the oak take the bend without steaming. I used a new clamp that also has a reverse feature to bring the oak to the frame. It worked out wonderfully as you can see.

Byrick,

We met at the 2005 Great Eastern Shore CBGT. We borrowed Tom Callahan's CD22 Otter to cruise the Chesapeake! Where is your shop located in Bellingham? We live in Birch Bay (Blaine), and would love to stop by!

Pat

What a great day at PNW Boat Works. Not only one but two sides of the motor well are complete.

I know things haven't been busy vacation will do that. But now things are on full swing.

Next I'll be laminating and working on the transom. That will be a fun part of the build

The last week has been very busy. The week prior it was vacation so things were really slow then. But this, it was time to get cranking. Both sides are on, blocked, and I started to fill but the shop just go too hot this afternoon. I still have yet to clean up the bow/stem but will fair them as well as the chine getting ready to put the panels on the bottom. I still have to install the battens but things are moving along.

It's funny when I look at other shops and these pictures of no saw dust on the floor, no tools around and I wonder how much time these builders must spend putting away the tools and cleaning up saw dust. Just the other day I spent over an hour chasing my tale. Then I decided I would just build. I guess the closer I get to say painting I'll need to work on keeping the shop cleaner.

The last month has been busy, saying goodbye to the summer. Taking one last vacation, getting my five year old off to school. Etc....

Lately I have been able to spend some good quality time on the Bartender. This has allowed me to complete some much needed work. Battens installed, faring complete on the Port side, just put a layer of fiberglass on the Port. faring the Starboard and laying fiberglass today. The motor well is complete. I am hopeful next week I'll be able to install the spray rail and bottom.
