THE AFFORDABLE BOAT ACT
The U.S. government has just passed a new law called: “The affordable boat act”
declaring that every citizen MUST purchase a new boat, by April 2014.
These “affordable” boats will cost an average of $54,000-$155,000 each. This
does not include taxes, trailers, towing fees, licensing and registration fees, fuel,
docking and storage fees, maintenance or repair costs.
This law has been passed, because until now, typically only wealthy and
financially responsible people have been able to purchase boats. This new laws
ensures that every American can now have a “affordable” boat of their own,
because everyone is “entitled” to a new boat. If you purchase your boat before
the end of the year, you will receive 4 “free” life jackets; not including monthly
usage fees.
In order to make sure everyone purchases an affordable boat, the costs of
owning a boat will increase on average of 250-400% per year. This way, wealthy
people will pay more for something that other people don’t want or can’t afford
to maintain. But to be fair, people who can’t afford to maintain their boat will be
regularly fined and children (under the age of 26) can use their parents boats to
party on until they turn 27; then must purchase their own boat.
If you already have a boat, you can keep yours (just kidding; no you can’t). If
you don’t want or don’t need a boat, you are required to buy one anyhow. If you
refuse to buy one or can’t afford one, you will be regularly fined $800 until you
purchase one or face imprisonment.
Failure to use the boat will also result in fines. People living in the desert;
ghettos; inner cities or areas with no access to lakes are not exempt. Age,
motion sickness, experience, knowledge nor lack of desire are acceptable
excuses for not using your boat.
A government review board (that doesn’t know the difference between the port,
starboard or stern of a boat) will decide everything, including; when, where, how
often and for what purposes you can use your boat along with how many people
can ride your boat and determine if one is too old or healthy enough to be able
to use their boat. They will also decide if your boat has out lived its usefulness or
if you must purchase specific accessories, (like a $500 compass) or a newer and
more expensive boat.
Those that can afford yachts will be required to do so…it’s only fair.
The government will also decide the name for each boat. Failure to comply with
these rules will result in fines and possible imprisonment.
Government officials are exempt from this new law. If they want a boat, they
and their families can obtain boats free, at the expense of tax payers.
The End

I didn't want to offend anyone. The site administrator can make this go away if they find it's too crazy for the site.

Does not bother me, and my politics run in favor of what it satirizes. I love good satire. Go ahead and give my sacred cow a couple of verbal jabs. I can laugh at myself.

Before this new boat act, those of us having a boat were paying for the ones that didnt everything they had to go to the repair shop(emergency room) because they could not be denied care. And every time boat owners went to the repair shop they were charged more for services(care) to pay for those that didnt have one. And 3 to 4 times a year the cost to have our boat went up 15-20% because the boat manufactures said that there were to many claims on those who belong to the boat owners group.

Man...I gotta figure out where you take your boat for service.

Back when I was employed, my boat service was actually free! But then I retired, and started having to pay it on my own. That's OK - we knew the day was coming, and made sure our retirement budget included enough funds to pay for service on our own. I mean, what good is owning a boat in retirement if you can't keep it running?

Funny thing is, after the affordable boat care act passed - my mechanic dumped me! I looked all over town for another one, but every one of them charges nearly double.

So then I thought, heck - I'll just sell the 22, and keep only the 16. I mean, a 22's nice - but I can certainly get by with just the 16 and it's lower maintenance costs. Then I got the real shocker - that's not allowed! A 22 is the minimum boat I'm allowed to have, even though a 16 would perfectly suit my needs!

Remember the good old days, when B.O.A.T. stood for "break out another thousand"? I could actually afford that.

"The Affordable Boat Act"
Why not, it's pretty typical in design of many "acts"
that are floated as necessary to our overall needs
and welfare.

Lets jump on board? :wink

Im on medicare so I have a boat, but my wifes boat was cancelled here in Alaska as well and to replace it, would be almost 3 times the cost as the old one. But here in Alaska our Governor decided folks up here didnt need a boat they could afford so he refused to be a part of the group, therefore making less options to buy a boat, thus no competition and higher prices.
In other states where the Governor participated, like Californa, Kentucky, ect , Im told that folks can buy their boat for half of what they paid or in some cases even less.
Anyhow Im done, I said my piece.

We have "crossed the bar" -- transitioned off our boat and now cruising ashore. Does that explain why I hear beautiful harp music every time somebody calls on our iPhone?

You guys who don't like it are in luck. There are two other countries that are easily reached by water if you have a boat or land if you don't. Of course, their majorities choose pretty much the same thing as the majority. Probably the best bet is to find somewhere to boat that doesn't let you vote.

But hey - at least our web site works.

I sure am glad the 22 meets the minimum and I don't have to buy a 25. It's the $10,000 deductible that I'm having trouble with.

I am confident that when the majority learn the truth about their boating options, they will vote in the next couple of elections. Sure glad we can can focus on boating here. : )

Anyone ever use speedy sleeves on their trailer spindles? I am thinking of trying a set to see if I can stop the water intrusion but the suckers are $50/pair. If they work that beats $70 for a set of bearings, races and seals.

I haven't used speedy sleeves on my boat trailer but have used a fair amount of them on heavy equipment, they work good.

I wonder if this new fangled boat care act will make it tougher to find a good boat care practicioner

we need to exercise our right to boat

What bothers me is that I have to pay for a dinghy even though I can't have one and my wife is too old to have one. If I really wanted a dinghy I could adopt one or wait for the son/step daughter to get one and let us use it.
