New 22'

Actually the alligators are afraid of people in that setting. When people feed them is when you have a problem. Now the water moccasins will climb in the boat with you!!! It's not uncommon for one to drop from a overhanging tree into a boat and they will climb up the motor.

Hey Marvin! Great to see you truly had a great weekend to break in your boat. I was down in your area for the FL game that turned into an AUBURN game right after the coin toss. That stadium was loud just like in Auburn, and the folks there were so nice they even performed our Orange & Blue cheer for us.

We stayed in a B&B at 7th & Ash just off the Fernandina Beach area. We stopped at the Crab Shake ourselves, but too long of a waiting list and we were tired from travel. Great looking waters you were in. Yes,,, the winds were strong all day long. Went down to the dock on Sunday prior to our return to Jacksonville to hop on SW and fly back to Nashville.

To know we were so close and did not hook up hurts a bit...but will for sure hook up at some point. May need your help in setting up a little loop gathering at some point on those waters. Great water towns. Now I gotta check out the events list and see if you are signed up for the 2nd annual Gulf Coast Gathering 19-21Oct.

Byrdman I was at the game festivities friday actually I was at the landing stopped on the way down the Saint Johns to watch the intertainment. I had a ticket to the game but chose to get out in the boat. I just live at the south end of Amelia Island you weren't but maybe 7 or 8 miles from my house as the crow flies. The Crab Shack you were at is a diffent place than where I was. There's some great restaurants in Fernindina and just north of there is Cumberland Island which is a nice boat trip. Contact me and I'll do what I can to help plan and event. I'm looking at a trip to the Keys myself sometime in January or February. The post about Pee Dee River sounds very interesting too. What I've seen of it is beautiful.

Hummm.... a bit of snorkeling and having fun in the Keys prior to a jump over to the Bahamas in the Feb time frame...??? Go ahead...twist my arm.

Now there's a real confidence booster -- the alligators won't eat you, but the water moccasins will drop from an overhanging tree (if you make it easy for them), or climb up the motor, if you make them work a little harder . . .

And yes, feeding the alligators is not too bright, but people continue to do it, don't they? They have a brain about the size of a walnut (the alligators, I mean), but one of the things that has helped them survive for millions of years is that this tiny brain has an indelible memory for where their last meal came from.

Umm. Alligators, water moccasins, hurricanes, tarantullas, bugs, hurricans, gators, water moccasins. Oh, the gators are afraid of people. You can pass it on to them for me, the feelings mutual. Tell me again why I like living in the PNW. Let's see. There is ah....oh. Mt St Helens, every couple hundred years or so.

Actually, Marvin, Congrats on the new 22. Your pix and craftsmanship look great. Wish I had your talent. Enjoy. And keep one eye tuned toward them creepy crawlly things  and I'll keep one eye tuned to your new modifications. Enjoy

Today while swimming at the beach on South Padre Island, I saw I had company - a shark. He was just a little guy, maybe a foot long or so. Nothing like the 7 foot long tiger shark we saw swim alongside the boat this winter while in the Keys. But, did I mention it was in the upper 80s, nice breeze, and sunny? And no mountains erupting! 8)

Congratulations, Marvin, on getting your 22 wet - let the good times roll! :D

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Waterskiing in salt water = trolling for sharks.
Swimming in saltwater=shark food
In my C-Dory ON salt water = On top of the food chain
Seeing Mt St Helens during the eruption = Priceless

Actually Black Creek where the sking is done is Fresh Water. Did I mention you are sometimes covered in Leaches when you swim in Black Creek?
