Need help settling on a boat name

If one had any connection to Naval Air and flying the F-14 Tomcat, like my cousin David Gerling for example, one name for a Tomcat power catamaran would immediately be a contender. The Tomcat community's proud challenge to all comers was always, "Anytime, Baby!" See:

Since I was once a Naval Flight Officer in the C-130 Hercules, I had thought of related names for my boat, such as:

Herky Dory (with apologies to the owners of "Hunky Dory")
C-Herky
Herky Bird

We went round and round about the 22's name when we first got it. I wanted "Susan E" from the start. My father named the boat I learned on the Nora K. after my mom and I always liked that it was named after the love of his life and wanted to follow suite.

Susan was a little shy about it so we kicked around a lot for fishing names. we also wanted something Irish. Susan is all Irish and Iam mostly Irish. so the the old Irish name for fishermen is unpronounceable and sounds like a side affect to throat cancer. :crook. We ended up with Susan E and the Scroll work on the side.

Now we are looking to name the new boat and Neither of us likes Susan e 2. Not sure of the rules of carrying a name over to a new boat. I am sure there is a priest and beer involved. There are a lot of good names out their but I don't want one that is one every fourth boat you see.

I will say that only you can pick a name in the end and you have to like it.

Tom, the tradition in Hawai'i is to name a 2nd boat "...TOO".
Like "SUSAN E TOO". I can't explain why or where it started. :? I remember a well known fishing charter boat named "Kamalii Kai" and the sister ship was "Kamalii Kai Too".

When we got the boat I originally was gonna go with "MERENEV"; a combination of MEREdith and NEVaeh, our grandaughter. But Meredith didn't like it; she said it sounded too "Russian". :lol:
 
Tom, with the way you're going to pack this boat, with gear and fish, you should call it "C-SUNK".

Now Rhapsody is another nice name and I like the definition because depending on the weather, you will have contrasting moods and we have done our fair share of improvisation especially when docking the boat! :D Of course that could all be different on a TomCat.

You could have Yacht C, which would be appropriate for a 27 foot C-Dory, but then again you could call it Current C because there are many meanings--the current C-Dory you have, the Currency you used to purchase it, or the Currents that will carry you on many adventures. Or I know, how about SusEtoo. Now I'm just being silly. It's been a long day.

Maybe you could grab a little bit more clever with "Apassionauto". With passion, vechicle. Or: "Appassioncato" With passion, catamaran.

Hello All.

Finally -- after a year and a half, our TomCat finally has a name.

Earlier in the thread I mentioned that we really wanted to pick a name that kept with the musical theme. Well, after much consideration we have chosen Accelerando, which means to increase the tempo (speed), which seems perfect for the TomCat.

I have mocked up how I am hoping the lettering will look using our chosen font.

So there you have it. Thanks all for the help. :)

I was just reviewing this thread and saw your post, Warren. Lats & Atts is an irreverent cruising magazine; mostly sailing oriented, but some trawler stuff in it on occasion. When I was still subscribing to magazines (dropped them because of all the traveling we do), Lats & Atts was the last one I gave up. It has cruising stories, photos, an occasional casual boat review, including some older classic cruisers. The editor/publisher, Bob Bitchin, used to put out a magazine in the 70s called Biker Lifestyle... he is a tattooed and BIG... quite an interesting sight in his aloha shirt and shorts. I've visited with him in the past, and "irreverent" is the best description I can come up with. He walked away from the biker lifestyle, bought a boat, and went cruising all around the world. The magazine is certainly not the typical boating/sailing glossy, but it has been very successful. They sponsor cruising seminars and parties in various popular cruising locals. While folks pay to attend the seminars, Lats & Atts also throws a beer and pizza party at some of the major boat shows.

If you've never picked up the magazine, do yourself a favor and buy a copy (generally available at West Marine and all the major bookstores). You may chuckle, you may say, "Well that was weird," you might see a few girls in bikinis in the reader contributions, maybe a recipe, some articles from regular contributors, and cruiser contributions. And lots of ads. All the major sailing accessory vendors know that L&A has a bigger readership than Sail or Sailing.

They have been doing a half hour TV show for quite a few years, but they can't seem to find a home with any particular network. The magazine is a lot more interesting than the TV show, IMHO.

In fact, if we put some ink on you, you might pass for Bob Bitchin's little brother. :wink:
