While I was shopping around the web and craigs list I ran across a very different home built cat. while looking at the add I found a link to the builders home page. Very different boats and trips. if you look around you will see that the guy used a small 20ft?? cat with twin sails to travel from gulf of mexico to cuba!! I just skimmed thru the reading but lots of neat post and pictures. I thought that some of you would enjoy it,

Thanks for the link

Really neat cat and other projects

Tom-Thanks for the link. I really enjoyed the read.

Very interesting set of readings. Truely a grand adventure off the beaten track. Although he was very experienced, the slow and lengthy passage to the Caymans is certainly interesting. I would not try that long a voyage solo in that small a boat.. We just had a house guest who from Canada who commented that many multihullers are minimalists--this one is a minimal minimalist! Also interesting that he estimated 480 hours for the build, but will not sell plans (and I understand why).

The trawler is certainly interesting--my major comment is about the accomidations--the only bunk seems to be the goucho type of settee on the Stb side just aft of the helm--perhaps the dinette. Not a lot of room in a 40 footer, but very interesting and effecient propullision system.

As for the Steel motor sailor--amazingly fast if it was really about 1 1/2 years working time--it may not have been actual time??

Of course rigging and sails is still additional--but certainly an impressive project.
