Nature Photos

Beautiful!!!! What camera and lens are you using? I'm threatening to buy the 18-200mm VR for my Nikon now that they are readily available.

Richard -
Your photos are outstanding. We are dedicated bird watchers so it was most enjoyable to 'see' your excellent pictures. Thanks for sharing them with us.

Camera and Lenses
I use a Canon 20D and 40D digital SLR and three Canon Image Stablized lenses most of the time:
- General Purpose lense for Landscapes and people photo: Canon 28 -135mm F4.5 IS
- Walk-about Wildlife Lense. Very portable and versatile: Canon 100-400 f4.5, L IS. This is a fantastic lense for butterflies and bummingbirds because of its close focusing capability
- Super Telephoto for wildlife photograpy when I can use a tripod or monopod. EXTREMELY sharp: Canon 500mm, f4 L IS often combined with a Canon high quality 1.4x or 2x Teleconverter

Multiply the focal length by 1.6x to get the equivalent 35mm focal length. For example, the 500mm is 800mm and 1600 mm with the 2x converter. I need every bit of this reach much of the time.

Breathtaking pictures :photo to say the least! :thup I have shared them with the folks around here and all I got was OOooo's and Ahhh's... they loved them  .

Do we have a thread or location on Brat's (help me out here folks as I am not that computer literate) for nature photos ?:?: I have seen some really good stuff :photo from Brat's over the years on this site and it would be nice if there was one place to go to to enjoy them again and again.

Please continue to share your wonderful photo moments with us! Thanks, Butch. :teeth

Truely wonderful photos! As a Canon SLR owner I also appreciate the very fine lenses which Richard owns--but the photographer makes the pictures!

Warren... I second that motion :) and agree the camera is only as good as the photographer behind it. :smile Again... nice job and keep the pictures coming! Butch

Richard, fantastic photos but I can't find the bummingbirds! :D Matter of fact, they may be extinct because I don't think I've ever even seen one!

Warren,

Nah, early attempt at PhotoShop. Several years ago, shot with my old Olympus 2100UZ. One of the great early digital cameras - great glass, 10x zoom, stabilized.

Amazing, I too had an Olympus UZ 2100; one of my favorite cameras. If it had the resolution and focal length that I needed for wildlife, I would still be using it. The Image Stabilization was made by Canon but to my disappointment, Olympus did not offer IS in any of their follow-on long focal length cameras.

I went to Canon DSLRs because of their extensive lens system , excellent glass and very effective image stabilization.

They're next to the hutterflies silly!

Charlie... I think Richard is in the same boat as me when it comes to spelling. Odd thing is :embarrased I totally understand because my wife bought me a bad spellers dictionary as a joke sometime back. It really works :thup ! All you got to do is look up a word spelled somewhere in ball park and it gives you options... just like spell check... :smile Butch
