Nothing wrong with the factory water heater....but there was a leak in the hose clamps behind the heater (hose clamps were not tightened properly, the "T" connector was the wrong size, and in one case, two hose clamps were meshed together!...a bit surprising... Since I have batteries installed in back of that waterheater, it is hard to access this area. We never use the full capacity of the water heater, and need 2000 watts to heat the water (generator). The new water heater would: 1 take less room. 2. be more accessiable. 3. require 750 watts (EU 1000 generator which runs everything else on the boat and is lighter) 4. there would be less weight on the prot side (80 to 100 lbs less) 5. we would have increased storage space. The project is on hold until we find the correct heater. I have seen them, but just not in Sequim or PA. The old heater is back in place--and we will heat it when at docks and have power, or we will heat water on the stove for baths....
Well, it looks wetter! We head for the San Juans Tuesday (wind permitting), and then to Gulf Islands, and hopefully further North--depending on the weather....
