Making a move

So here's a story. Back in January 2009 I saw a 21 Ranger Tug for sale at Westport marina here on Vancouver Island. I asked here on this site and on TugNuts for some input on this tug and got some some really great comments. In the end I decided that the R21 was not quite what we wanted, the dream being an R25, but the quest lead us to Port Boathouse, the dealer. They were also the C-Dory dealer at the time and, to shorten the story, we finally bought a 2008 Venture 23.

Fast forward to this fall and there was interest on the C-Brats site for someone looking for a boat like ours. a case of "2 ft'itis" set in and we started looking around. That deal didn't materialize but we had the itch. The Venture had been an absolutely spectacular boat with no issues. It was (is) well finished yet simple. It rides perfectly in snotty waters and is comfortable on the hook, though a little like camping. What to buy?

After lots of great input from TugNuts we decided on an R25. Several people suggested the R27 while others pointed us to Cutwater. We thought about a Venture 26 but finally we settled on an R25SC. It gave us the real enclosed head and shower and still fitted in the boathouse. There was a used R25SC available at Port Boathouse and we were sorely tempted. A really lovely boat at a great price. In the end, however, insanity took charge and recognizing that at 67 (nearly 68) and mostly single handing, this is going to be our last boat, we splurged for new. The latest incarnation of "Chimo", a grey hull 2017 R25SC, is due to become ours tomorrow. I recognize that I am trading storage and speed for a lot more systems and maintenance but also comfort and thrusters. I'm sure it's going to be a good decision.

Now I have only one big decision left, "Do I leave my C-Brats pennant on the Venture or take it with me? My thinking is that I should leave it. Hopefully Chimo (with a new name) will stay at home in the C-Brats family and the new owner will benefit from the great information, exchange of views and camaraderie that I have enjoyed over the last years.

Thanks everyone

Congrats on the new boat - the R25SC is a great boat; you will have all kinds of comfort with your cruising!

Regarding the pennant: I would suggest that you keep it. It is a part of your history, and has been said many times here: once a C-Brat, always a C-Brat. Display it in the den, mounted in a classy frame. The new owners can decide whether or not they wish to have (buy) a pennant on the boat.

Exciting times ahead for you! :thup

Best wishes,
Jim

Congratulations, on the RT SC25. Great boat, and you will really enjoy it.

I do have to disagree with you. At age 56, when I retired I thought the vehicle I bought then would be my last...at age 80, I have had 3 more. When I was 68 I had a 28 foot express cruiser--"my last boat" Since then, I am on my 4th C Dory. Keep looking 10 years ahead at least...

Bob, I will be soon be 67 and your comment about your "last boat" 28 express struck a chord. What model 28 express was it? I very much like our 22 cruiser but my wife feels very cramped in it, and she would much prefer an Albin 28. She loves to fish but is not at all interested in cruising in the 22...

Oh, and in keeping with the thread, I say keep the pennant!

It is up to you on the fate of the pennant but you are not allowed to leave C-Brats. We still don't have any rules, but if we did that would be one of them!

Congratulations! Pretty exciting stuff!

Congratulation Chimoii- Enjoy that beautiful boat to the fullest. On a personal note, I left my little home town at age 17. I'm now 80. Yet, whenever asked I can only answer that I'm from Franklin, NJ. It's like that with the C-Brats, once you pass through here you are, and will always be, a Brat. Bigger boat, smaller boat or no boat, always. Fly the pennant high.

I'm going to come see you! You sound cool!!!

My thanks to all!

The new Ranger tug is in the boathouse. WOW does it have a lot of systems! I'm really enjoying it so far.

I really appreciate the comments. When I took my first trip in the R25 someone said, "you will have to lose that hat". The cap is my C-Dory one and I replied, "No way, once a C-Brat........". (That might change if my Tug Nugs hat turns up 😉).

I did keep my burgee and it is proudly displayed in my office at home. There doesn't seem to be a TugNugs burgee, just individual ones. In the meantime I will just try to adjust to the new experience.

Thanks again all!

That's so great! I can only imagine the feeling you must've felt when you finally brought the boat home. Life is good!

Congrats on the new 25Ranger, and enjoy it.
And on keeping the CBRATS burgee. It's yours, and it does not mean you are a C-Dory owners it means you are a C-Brat, SO, fly it on your boat if you want, and if you get a Tug Nut one you can fly that over the CBRATS.

Or flat it wherever you want. As Jim said it is your history, and we are glad you're a "Brat"
