Larry and Nancy's new boat.

Greetings Brats,

As promised, here are the details of our new boat, the 'Jacari Maru'.

She is a Puget Trawler 37. A fiberglass, tri-cabin, diesel trawler, built in 1978 by skilled Chinese craftsmen in Tiawan.

This boat is not fast like C-Dorys but should go thru the chop at a steady 7 to 8 knots.

My back could not take the rough ride of our C-Dory and Cape Cruisers are also a 'pounder' at speed. So we move on in life to a boat more suitable to 'older' folks. LOL

This boat has a 120 hp Ford Lehman diesel with 360 gallons of fuel and has a cruising range of over 700 miles.

So, for less than the price of a new CD 25, we have a long range liveaboard cruiser.

Here's a photo and the rest of the photos are in my album

Larry,
Congrats on the new boat. Its looks like its in great shape. I've often looked at the Taiwan made trawlers and thought... If I just had more time.....You sure get a lot of boat per dollar. (even Canadian $'s) Hope to see you in the Broughtens some time.

That teak is beautiful...especially the carved forward rail. You should be very comfy cruising around in that ol' gal!

Here's to your success! :beer

I remember sailing from seattle to victoria and getting passed by similar boats all the time and thinking "if I could just go 8 knots I could make it by dark". Speed is definitely a relative thing.

Congratulations on your new boat. I've always admired the look and comfort of a mid-size trawler. Before buying the CD-25, I ran that by the Blonde... trailerability was a real factor for us. C-Dory's ad for "a trailerable trawler" in Passagemaker magazine sure caught my eye.

You mentioned "liveaboard"... is that your plan? That will certainly make a great vessel for that.

And for LloydS: since we had a trimaran, we always blew past the trawlers (and all the monohull sailboats)... I didn't wish for more speed, just a place to stand up to put on my pants, a hot shower, and a head I could stand up in. Oh, and a steering station out of the weather!

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Larry and Nancy-

Congradulations on the new Puget Trawler 37 'Jacari Maru! Hope you enjoy it throughly. There are indeed a lot of other boating options available. See ya' both in Seattle! Joe.

Congratulations Larry and Nancy – the boat looks beautiful and I am sure it will meet your expectations. Just because you don’t have a C-Dory does not mean we wouldn’t enjoy seeing you two at some of the NW CBGT’s

Congratulations Larry and Nancy. I am looking towards a trawler/tug type boat in the future also. I need to find a C-Dory 16 however, to use around the island and maybe transportation to the bigger boat housed in a marina. Got to stay with the great people on this site.

Congrats on your new boat. She is a beauty of a trawler. My cousin lives in Bremerton, Brownsville Yatch Club member. Look for him on the waters and at the trawler fest. His name is Bill & Diana Bailey on the Grand Banks "Honky Tonk". If I could afford it and had the dock space and access I would have one too. Happy Boating.

Brats,

Thanks for the interest!

The boat will live in the Everett marina in covered moorage.

Next May we are leaving for SE Alaska after the Lopez opening day party. We plan to be gone all summer.

Shopping for a used boat is quite an experience. We were looking for a boat that had a caring owner. We saw lots of 'used up boats' that needed work. I did not want a project boat. This boat showed pride of ownership and was well taken care of. She has been in covered moorage for many years.

Great lookin' boat. I love the interior cabinetry work. Most importantly, I notice that some rod holders are already installed. Everytime I see a large cruiser or yacht without rod holders, I always say to my wife "Another useless boat, look no rod holders". Your boat is both nice looking AND useful .

Nice boat you found there. My folks just spent 9 months looking for 'the boat" I did a lot of that looking for them, they live in vegas. There are a lot of 'well maintained" boats that are not. It really took them and I you a while to find the perfect boat. Iam off tomorrw for a eye appointment would love to come see the boat after. i will call you

WOW Nice Boat.
Hope to see you at the gatherings. That would make a great mothership on a cruise up to Desolation and beyond.
