Lake Superior

I thought you might like to see this enhanced photo I took in mid-November off of Park Point near the Duluth Harbor Ship Canal. And I was cold just taking the photo!

Anybody else not able to see Moose's pic?

Denise and I have lived most of our lives in Duluth and we are curious what would be cool enough for ol Moose to get cold over!!!! :wink

We will head back there soon to spend some holiday time with our relatives. Even if we only stay a week, there is always a blizzard and at least 25 below while we are there. :thdown :thdown :thdown

Great picture, water looks to cold for me.Guess i am kind of nuts also,we used to dive off the cliffs at Gros-Cap.( i dove off the small ones ) when we were kids.. The water there is crystal clear, very deep and cold. You can easily see the submerged flowerpots( mushroom heads) close to shore. We used to snorkel and dive down to see if we could reach them. There are susposed to be underwater caves somewhere along the Gros-Cap coast but we never did find them, they may be deeper than we could dive.Tug

We cruised the shores of Lake Superior this summer. What wonderful cruising, but you have to keep an eye looking back over your shoulder. The weather changes abruptly and that lake is huge. If you have an interest in Lake Superior perhaps you'll enjoy reading our essays we wrote about cruising a C-Dory on portions of the south shore of the lake.

This tale is mostly about a "unique collection of islands," the Apostle Islands National Seashore:

www.cruisingamerica-halcyondays.com/apostleunique.htm

and if you are interested in the geologic formation of the lake (and a good portion of the upper Midwest as well) this tale may be of interest: www.cruisingamerica-halcyondays.com/apostlerift.htm

Here's a little more about a legend from the ancient people of the north: www.cruisingamerica-halcyondays.com/apo ... higami.htm

And a tale for all who cruise on Superior's waters ("humility is the only defence against humiliation:"
www.cruisingamerica-halcyondays.com/apostleboss.htm

And, for tales about a cruise farther east along the southern shore of the lake:
www.cruisingamerica-halcyondays.com/pictrks.htm

We also cruised the northern (Canadian) shore of the lake, but haven't yet found time to write up that tale. Perhaps after the Christmas season ....

lle Parisienne.( Parisian Island ) Whitefish Bay, Lake Superior is located about seven miles either way between the Michigan and Gros-Cap,Ontario shore-line. Lots of boater/campers from Sault Ste Marie and area travel there during the summer. The Island is very beautiful and has great sand beaches and beaching one's boat is no problem. There is good Lake trout/Whitefish fishing there also. The Apostle Islands if i am not mistaken are not that far from there.Think i will go camping there next summer.Tug
