Lake Powell - Memorial Day Weekend

Cold and windy at Lake Powell this past weekend. Season is late this year. BUT, 12 foot depth at the cut across from Wahweap and the water is rising with big runoff from Rocky Mountain snow.

One year we were driving not too far from Powell, and could hear multiple "may days" on the Marine VHF from the heavy winds, and snow which occured on Memorial day weekend. (Ham radio operators are allowed to have multiband scanners in their vehicles).

Haven't been watching the site very closely, so missed your windy visit post until now. One of these days I'll meet you two on the lake!

We've had what has been undoubtably the most blustery spring in memory at Powell and most of northern Arizona.

I was lucky enough to spend the three weeks just ahead of Memorial Day weekend on the lake. Absolutely beautiful with almost nobody else on the lake. However, out of the three weeks had only three days without significant rain, hail or (mostly) wind. Often beautiful mornings, but nearly always by noon and for the rest of the day it just kicked up the whitecaps with steady wind and gusts anywhere from 40 to 50+ mph. Rowdy!
