Those of you that have visited Lake Powell and La Gorce Arch here's a little history about it. This was posted over on another form and I thought some of you might enjoy reading about it.

Thank you for a delightful insight into the naming of not only that arch--but the "politics" of I suspect many names in the country....all over!

What is amazing to me the relitatively recent "Exploration"--or at least the settling of names.

Makes me wonder maybe if we renamed it to say Bill & El Arch and got it printed in a few papers that the name might stick. Other places at Lake Powell like the Butt Cracks and the Hall of the marching Elephants I wonder how far they names date back and who were the first to name them.
