I ordered a full camper package from King Marine Canvas and hoped to install it myself. I found King to be wonderful to work with and their product was excellent quality. It took about 6 to 8 hours to install with two of us working on it. Dave at King Marine was very helpful explaining some of the details on installing the kit. If you are a little bit handy with tools and have some time I would recommend King Marine Canvas for a cockpit cover.

King canvas, is that the place that does the canvas work for the factory?
would you mind telling me how much that cost.
thanks Dave

Yes, they do the factory work. $2000 got the top of the line cover with netting, windows, curtains for night time and delivery to NC from Washington.

Could you please describe the access to the boat with the cover in place?
I'm especially concerned about the potential difficulty of creeping over the cockpit coaming (gunnel?) and under the cover to get in and out of the boat.

Thanks,

We have a King Marine bimini on the Mary Ellen. The way they are installed you can unzip the front and fold it back on either side for easy boarding. It works great. Big Mac.

thanks for the pictures
does anybody know if king canvas will do custom work
I just want the canvas to cover the storage lids
and I really like the Idea of a zipper running down the side of the cabin

thanks Dave

Paul,
I will be in Sequim in a couple of weeks, and be happy to show my the King Canvas cover on the 25. The 22 is similar.

My personal experience is that I had a much better canvas built by a local canvas maker. I used King because the local canvas man did not have enough time in his schedule. The local person used better materials and fitting was better, as well as being specific to what I desired, and better for all climates, rather than just the PNW. (The Tom Cat was done by Pedersen Canvas in Pensacola, the C D 25 by King).

Although not necessary for the PNW, it is important in hot areas to have the bimini top self supporting, and the pannel between the foreward bow and aft cabin house removable, to allow free air flow thru this area. It gets quite hot under the Bimini in high sun areas when there is no air flow there. This pannel also makes boarding much easier in some circumstances, especially when you are boarding from a high dock.
