Joel's boat Kea WRECKED

Good grief! Those are some angry waters on your lake there, Joel. Hope this story has a happy ending, one way or another - I know right now it is sheer misery seeing her on the rocks and being helpless to do anything...

Joel,... our hearts ache for you. You built Kea, didn't you? We hope the hull and motor can be repaired. If anyone can accomplish that, you're the man! Cry like a baby over this, then get to work on Kea. Will insurance cover the costs?

Be well our good friend. Don't fall in to a deep funk over this. Give our love to Susan. She's got to have an awfully wet shoulder from your tears.

I got er out yesterday... it does not have any holes or leaks...but the diesel is full of water, the prop is bent so it the rudder shaft...lots of fiberglass is missing.... but luckly it is thickly built with hand laid up fibergalss and the woven roving held just fine.....

Major thing that I found is that someone cut the bow line....I thoght it strange that 1/2" lines from West Marine would pull apart...I found the bow line cut about 3" off the boat...straight cut

My son-in-law is going to tow er home to Camarillo in about two weeks.

Probably kids...but it really hurts me.

I hope you find the culprits. It sounds like you will be able to salvage the boat. Hope everything turns out OK and the line cutters are caught and made to pay for all the damage plus time in jail to think about their actions.

Wow man, I feel for ya, but it sounds like at least she's repairable. And just think you've gotten your next 10 yrs of bad luck out of the way..

Did you have a winter project planned? ;)

Joel,

A little late, but I just logged on and saw your post. My heart goes out to you, buddy......that's heart wrenching. Hope the damage is not too severe and that she can be saved.

Joel Good Buddy-

So sorry to hear about your Tug. Very sad. I am very appreciate that I got a ride in that beautiful boat of yours this summer for that enjoyable evening cruise with you and Susan.

I know how shit happens. I crashed my hot air balloon this year after 20 years of flying. No one was hurt, but it sure hurt my feelings. I know how your feelings must be hurt as I know you loved that boat, probably more than your C-Dory.

One thing I do know, if that boat can be fixed there is no question in my mind that you will have it up and running with some work ahead of you. I hope to go for another ride with you next summer!

Sincerely,

Pounder Jim

I hope that you called the Sheriff and filed a complaint. This is such a shame and "kids" need to know what the vandalism leads to. Also a piece in the local news paper might get someone out of the woodwork, and alert other lake side owners. We have a friend who built a home up there and we had considered it for retirement--it is such a beautiful area. Sorry to hear that vandalism prevails!

Joel,

The locals must be a pretty tight group I'd think. Would it be possible to get them motivated to put up a reward for information leading to the arrest of the vandals? Certainly kids/people talk of 'brave' deeds, got to be more than one who knows who did it. Just a thought.

Joel,
I just got back from vacation and saw what happened to Kea.
Man, that had to be a horrible feeling to have to wait so long before you could get her off the beach.
The thing that has always impressed the most about you Joel is your ability to correct problems under adverse conditions. Shucks, that's what you do. I'm confident that after the shock and anger subside you'll roll up your sleaves and get Kea back in pristine condition. You'll probably even make some improvements to her in the process. That's just the kind of guy you are.

Joel,
Sure hate to see the vessel Kea in such dire straits! I never would have imagined when I was on Lake Almanor years ago, that it could become so turbulent! Like what the other C-Brats have stated, I suspect that with all of your talents, the Kea will be up and running stronger than ever! Likewise, I do hope the responsible (or more appropriately....the irresponsible) culprits are apprehended and are forced to face the music and receive the appropriate punishment for their deeds!

I have the tug out and on er trailer...managed to clean out the fuel tanks, dry the engine and transmission and have run it about 30 minutes on fresh fluids so I think mechanically everything is fine...I haven't even found anything electrical suffering any dammage.... everything got wet, and lots of it was underwater all day...but everything works ???
The damage is a bent prop...but can be straightened...and the rudder shaft is bent....lots of scars on the bottom.... I will need to do lots of fiberglass repairs.... indeed we will survive !! My son-in-law is coming on Friday to tow us back to Camarillo where I will do the work..lots of wood work and fiberglass...

Sue, Roxie (the dog) and I will be at the Santa Barbara event..

Joel-

Very glad to hear Kea is fully repairable, and especially so with your fine skills!

Have fun in Santa Barbara! You deserve a break!

Joe.

Joel, both sorry to hear what happened and glade you will be able to restore her. I looked at the pictures and their disturbing to see any boat like that. Best of Luck (or Skill)
