Men (and wives),
Captain Jim has published a very transparent log on his blog of a bout with prostate issues. Most of us could not be that open and his posts are a gift to us who have secret worries, do not do well with health issues, and are getting up there in age (all plumbing systems are prone to fail sooner or later). If you get a moment, log onto his blog and give him a "hello, how are ya?", he follows and posts here all the time also. We all need solid guys like Jim in our lives.

Oh, my! That is quite a hard hitting story. Thanks to Jim for having the courage to share it and I hope it has been a healing and strengthening endeavor to write it all down.

We of course wish both of them (and the cat) all the best, always.

Thanks, Bob, for letting us know.

Yes a rough go shared with his usual since of humor. I commented on his blog & know he will be reading thoughts shared here too. Again my Best Wishes to Jim & Joan for making way through a tough time.

Jay

We have always enjoyed Jim's pictures and posts and it hurts to see him go through some rough times.
We wish him a speedy recovery so they can get back to more adventures.
Thoughts from up north.

Marie and I send our best wishes to some of our very favorite people. Jim, keep your spirits up--this phase is only temporary. You will be back at 100% before you know it!

Our prayers for a quick recovery.

Jim, thanks for sharing several details of your experience. I think doing so may well encourage some of us guys to make an appointment for a routine physical--maybe even without our wife's insistence. I wish you and Joan the best this holiday season, and I'll be in the stands rooting for your full recovery. Do me a favor, if you would. Tell Rufus something good, and give your big, handsome buddy a hug for me. :cat

Thanks for the kind words, folks - it goes a long ways right now. The blog has been therapeutic for me over the years. Being told you have cancer, and getting run through "the system" can be disheartening; the writing gives me an outlet.

If you know me here, you know the Blonde. Joan and I have always had each other's back, and I think she saved my life in the hospital. She continues to hang tough with me now that I am back home. Today is the day after our 48th anniversary... not quite how I expected to celebrate.

The C-Brats haven't had the pleasure of meeting Rufus, the way they did Molly and Izzy. There is something healing in the purring of a great cat.

Now that I am home, I can get some rest and start the recuperation. C-Brats continues to be a part of my daily routine... I came here because of the boat, stayed here because of sense of community. Again, sincere thanks.

Jim, Joan, and Rufus

Well Jim, when I first read this thread I was deeply concerned. Your earlier blog posts added to my anxiety. However, I just finished your Dec. 4 blog entry and I breathed a sigh of relief through my laughter. A grateful "Jim's back, that man can write", I said out loud to no one in particular. Take care, get better, we love you.

Thanks, Marty - always a pleasure to hear from you. Levity isn't always appropriate, but it seems to be what comes out of my mouth first. Much of this experience has been beyond my gauge of what could be considered humorous, but I am trying to keep a good outlook.

Jim,

We've never met, but let's just say I can relate to your latest blogging. I've always enjoyed your posts, and your other writings, as well. I hope your writing doesn't make you laugh as much as it makes me laugh, because if I felt the way you do right now, laughing hard would be . . . YIKES!

I will share one small vignette in the spirit of your blog. Shortly after I went through this particular mill, my brother-in-law faced the same surgery. My sister asked me to give him the straight, no-BS skinny on what to expect. I had a couple of very explicit conversations with him, which turned him a little green, but he thanked me nonetheless. Among other things I told him he might experience some considerable bruising and swelling in places he most likely had not previously been bruised or swollen. The day after his surgery, my sister called. She was laughing so hard I couldn't understand what she was saying at first, but eventually I got the story. My brother-in-law had just had his first good look at his private parts. He didn't quite scream, but swore profusely and said "It looks like Jabba the Hutt with a feeding tube!"

Hang in there. We're all pulling or you.

Thanks, Bill. Yes, that gave me a good laugh. Yes, it hurts. That said, I welcome the laugh. And, completely understand your brother-in-laws description.

In spite of doing a bunch of research, I didn't come across this particular... um... situation ahead of time. Surprise!

Oh MY, I haven't been to the blog yet, but I will get there. What I know now is that Jim is back, sense of humor and all. So Glad. Jim and Joan, you tow are special here, and have always enjoyed following, here and on the blog at times. Jim, all the best; prayers for a fast and complete recovery and that swelling and bruisng, ahhh there are places you never thought of putting an ice pack, that can help if used timely.

And, as Readers Digest has proclaimed for many years, "Laughter is Good Medicine". Sure wish it worked for Covid, but looks like you got in and out with out collecting any of that. Stay safe and stay healthy. BAck to 100% soon.

Thanks, Harvey, and please know that your PM with good thoughts and advice really touched me this morning.

Best wishes,
Jim

Wishing you a speedy recovery Jim. Your continued sense of humor is a good sign!

The empathy between boaters who may have never met makes this a truly remarkable place. As Marty often says " Love this place"

Regards,

Rob
