JACK B NIMBLE

I've been passing an interesting boat on the way to shopping near us. Finally figured out what it was and took some pictures. It's a NIMBLE WANDERER and is really big for a trailerable boat. Over 32' long with an 8'6" beam!

Didn't see a mast anywhere, it was in the place to have a new engine installed. It's homeported in our town, never seen it on the water but named "JACK B NIMBLE". Other pictures in my album, last sub album named NIMBLE.

Charlie,
When we wondered out the Erie Canal last fall in September there was a smaller version called a Nimble Nomad my guess a 22 / 24' unit had a 50 hp Honda on it for power. Looked like a fun slow boat to China sort of cruiser. Must be cheap to run. I'm thinking we took some pictures of it which would located in the Erie Canal Cruise pic album. Cheers

The Wanderer was available as a sail or trawler version. Interesting boats. The Nimble Nomad, at 24/25 feet is much smaller. A friend of ours (the guy who first suggested a C-Dory to me) had a Nomad, now has a Ranger 25 Tug. The Nomad is a definite protected water boat; 6 knots or so and really pounds in short steep chop. Not sure if they still do, but there was a company that rented Nomads on the Erie Canal. The boat has a front cockpit that would sure make handling lines easy. I've always thought they were kinda cute in an art deco sorta way. The Wanderer, on the other hand, is more rare, more stout, and still trailerable with an 8.5' beam.

We had a Nimble Vagabond [20' power] in on trade a few years ago that we almost had a fight on the lot over so many folks wanted it . It had a 25 Honda and was a really well built craft . Beauty is in the eye of the beholder .

When I was searching for a boat, I considered both the C-Dory and the Nimble Nomad. Both boats have strong qualities and are great boats. It was the touch of nostalgia, ruggedness and creature comforts that made me go for the Nomad instead of the C-Dory. Yes it is slow, but it is cheap to operate (1/2 to 1 1/2 gph) and since I am already where I want to be speed is not an issue. Check out "Boomer" on youtube.com > movieolaman. Thanks, Jim

Here's the Nimble Nomad Dave Deem mentioned. This is is in Newark, NY on the Erie Canal in September, 2009.

We seriously considered a Nimble Nomad. I really liked the idea of the open bow to allow for easy line handling. I really didn't like the idea of the open bow for safety reasons . Kind-of a catch 22 situation, but I figured I wanted a boat that I could take anywhere I might dream about going.

If I KNEW that I'd be in relatively protected water the Nomad would win.
