Is owning a 22 AND a 16 too decadent?

I know, asking this question here is like asking my dog if being fed TWO times a day is too decadent :)

Just returning from a 22 cruise in the San juans, got me thinking: If no one ends up buying my 16-angler by summer, is it really all that bad to just have two C-Dorys? The 16 I assume will make a great fishing boat on Superior and elsewhere. Easy towing, better MPG's (sure to become more important this summer judging rising fuel prices) The 22 can be reserved for more involved adventures with more than my dog for company. Being a fan of minimalism and simplicity, I can't quite shake the feeling of owning more than I need.

Anyone else in this situation? Thoughts?

Nope Decadent is what Al Gore and his like have. Microsoft co founder 300 plus feet, yup pretty decadent. Makes one wonder if they could have charged $49.99 for all those computers we bought. 2 c dory's not decadent buy on! George

minimalist? which part? That was out the window when you bought the first boat. IMO
What is the name of that song?, Leroy You Gotta Get You a Woman? Sounds like you have the C-Dory Fever bad. Why not a Tomcat next? How do you fit all of your stuff in your Metro?

D.D.

I started with the 22 in 2003. Traded it in on a 25 in 2005 and bought the first of 2 16's about 3 or 4 years ago. I use the 16 (I only have the one) for my commuter boat, crabbing, etc. Easy to launch in minimal tides. The 25 is my "yacht".

We started with a 16, but while I was looking for a kicker in The Wooden Nickel, I came across an ad for a 22 Angler at a price that I couldn't pass up. We decided we'd keep them both for a while, while we decided which one we liked the best. That didn't work too well - we loved them both. I preferred fishing out of the 16, while overnighters were fun on the 22. But after a couple of years I got tired of maintaining two hulls and two trailers and four motors, so we decided to sell the 16. I haven't regretted it too often!

We sold our 16 because we found a 22 cruiser at a good price and didn't have the room for both. That was a year ago. Sue asked me sunday while out for a drive, if I regretted parting with the 16 and I had to reply that yes I did, at times. They are great boats and we really liked the portability of the 16 while heavily loaded with a camper. But the 22 does some things that the 16 wasn't as good at, like extended trips and significant offshore fishing. We both wish now that we had kept the 16.

We owned both a 22 and a 25 while we have owned the Tom Cat--part of that was that my son used the 22 or 25 which was kept in Calif. So we didn't have to drive the boats across the US. Currently we own the Tom Cat and an 18 foot Caracal center console catamaran--more a utility boat, day boat and fishing boat. Different boats for different uses. I have owned several boats most of my life--for example a larger racing or cruising sailboat--and I owned an 18 foot deep V runabout for about 25 years.

One solution would be to keep a for sale sign on the 16. You can enjoy both boats until the 16 sells. I would further sugest that you set the price at $45,000.00 FIRM. That way if it sells, your regrets will be minimized!

Ditto here.

If each boat is primarily used for different purposes, and one is less to own and operate, sure makes sense to me. Would we own a Prius and a Tundra? Yes, if we needed the Tundra for towing and the Prius for daily commuting and around town driving. Utility can trump redundance in our opinion.

We each determine our own needs.

Roger - I assume Lisbeth will let you ride in her 25 (provided you've showered and applied deodorant) - correct?
