Is it spring yet?

The snow and ice is clearing off the driveway quickly, we hope to get out first weekend in April. Maybe do two nights in Prince William Sound. Too early for shrimp but should limit out on rock fish and perhaps a butt or two. My son is anxious to hit the beaches in search of buoys; been a long winter here in Alaska.

I realize winter in the willamette valley isn't remotely similar to that in alaska but the winter here hasn't been a piece of cake either. So tired of the rain, snow, frost, wind, etc..

Apparently only on the calendar! And it's put me in a bad mood.

It's my one day off and I had plans to get some things done on the boat.  Then I awoke to this:

And it doesn't show in the photo, but it's still coming down. :amgry :amgry :amgry :amgry

I was just showing homes in Lake stevens and the snow was coming down hard. big wet flake are coveing the ground.

On the way to work this morning at 8am it was snowing at the everett boat ramp. got to love spring. :rose

I was amused by the snow photos as I sat here in Sunny Sequim. I shouldn't have been so smug! 2:00 PM and it's snowing big flakes in "Sunny" Sequim

OK, now we got ICE PELLETS and it is dumping. :amgry

Merdith said I need to go home to recharge my batteries. I'm afraid that if I do, I might not come back...

Mark, I drove to Lake Stevens to work out at the station, on the way there some guy slid his car in the ditch at Frontier Village. Appeared to be about 2 inches of white stuff on Hwy 9.
Your patrol car looked mighty cold parked there, but at least you didn't have to work today.
You should have done what I did and lift weights and get on a stair climber......a great way to rid yourself of that pent up frustration....LOL.

Now I'm all buffed up and waiting to watch Stephano Langone on American Idol. (He and our daughter Jessica sang/performed together in the Celebration Choir at Bellevue College for two years).

Going home from Seattle at 3:30 you could still see a little snow here and there. Traffic from Lynwood to Marysville was slowest I have ever seen -- stop and go to the max, and for no reason that I could see except a little snow. Sheesh!

YES...... SPRING IS HERE.

Myself, brother Mike (GYPSY) & Jeff (C-PEARL) had a great day on the Cumberland. The most fun was listening to the sail boat opperators askink Ingram Barge Captains if he thought they had enough time to cut accross the bow....or should they wait for the barge to pass. I was very proud at how polite the Captain was on each call and the informative info they shared on the way the barge moves....or, more importantly....how they do not stop. All ended well. Great day on the waters! Yall come on down!

Spring is over, Summer is here in Alaska.

Nice weekend in PWS if you ignored the weather report of rain and snow, nothing but sunshine Saturday and Sunday. Went out Friday night and stayed in Surprise cove, had a little ice Saturday morning; good thing we didn’t tuck up behind the Island. Went over to Applegate and did a little beach combing than trolled some off West Bay Perry with no luck. Tried for some rock fish but again no takers, seems nothing is biting this early. Tucked into one of our favorite coves and hit the beach for some more exporting. Sunday stopped at a couple of spots on the way in, didn’t see another boat all weekend just a couple of tugs. Was nice to head into Whittier without dealing with other boat wakes, look forward to dropping shrimp pots next weekend.

Jay,

I saw the same seals on the way in Sunday in Passage Canal. I spent 3 hours Saturday snowshoeing up a mountain on Culross. Didn't bring the skis. That will be next weekend on the same mountain. Saw a lot of porpoises and a couple of whales. No bears yet.

Apparently, Friday is the day for it to finally arrive!

Quote from forecast:

"Wednesday through Friday, our region should be between weather systems for sunshine and warmer temperates with highs gradually warming into the mid to upper 60s Thursday and mid 60s and low 70s by Friday. By the way, the last time we hit (or exceeded) 70 was November 3rd of last year, when Sea-Tac recorded a high of 74 degrees."

It was a beautiful here today also, did my first run downriver ( about 20 miles ) and beached the boat at a friends for coffee.I never saw another boat,it was great. The river is really low and if you wander off channel it could get expensive.Marina is still repairing some of the docks so i trailered my boat today. One thing i noticed is that the bottom paint .( one little spot ) wore down to the 2000e when i beached my boat on the sand. No big deal but the paint is suppose to be good for numerous trailerings and beachings. Tug

And it is DEFINITELY better here than wherever Bathurst is today!

I have no doubt about that, Pat. Yesterday was sunny, 65º for a high, and wind blowing like stink - gusts above 40 mph all day! Forecast for the next two days: rainy, cold, and windy. Flood watches being called for, with rainfall up to 4" over the next 48 hours. Sheesh!

We're in the beautiful Black Hills, acclimating to a little higher altitude and cooler temps before heading west to our summer jobs. The lake level in the Tetons is low and continuing to drop. Snowpack way above normal has Bureau of Reclamation folks concerned about flooding, so they are dropping lake levels all along the Snake River. If that continues, I may be working at the horse corrals instead of driving a boat. And I don't trust horses - no on/off switch.

So, don't hold me as any kind of a standard bearer for good weather... seems that Mother Nature has been kicking my butt everywhere I've been the last 6 months or so. We already had some summer before we left the Tropical Tip - I'd be delighted to see some springtime weather. :hot 8)

Best wishes,
Jim
