We live in Boulder City a few minutes from Lake Mead and also boat at Lake Shasta and Lake Powell. Is there a Nav software that can show major inland lakes/shorelines at different water levels? Before the rains this year, Shasta was like a new place and Lake Powell last week was not easy to figure out from my printed maps (rocks and ledges not always easy to see). Thanks.

Try this for Lake Powell: Lake Powell Maps. It looked good for me last year.

Hmm. Well I called the guy and talked with him. Per the web site his number is 530.615.9810.

Don't guarantee it'll help, but got mine working.

Actually, used the map on my Lowrance plotter and didn't get too close to anything dicey.

I'll have to check my Navionics card that came with my Lowrance. I've been a little surprised at the lake and river details so far. The lakes seem to have less detail than the salt, and I doubt that the chip would have sufficient detail to show dangers to navigation at low lake levels. Still, I was surprised to see some of them show up on Lake Ozette, which has zero commercial traffic and little boat traffic.

I also could not get the free trial maps to work.

I have used Garmin, Navionics, (including the "fishing versions) RayMarine, and Skipper software charts on Powell. All give some approximation of the shoreline if you follow the contour levels--which some of the charts show.

But--eyeball navigation is most important. Also being conservative is important.

I got to ride on the ranger's boat who is stationed out of Dangling Rope--they use RayMarine. The lake was at about 3600 feet. I had been around the Oak Canyon area a number of times, and knew all of the obstructions, and depths within a foot. I observed the ranger went way out of the "safe areas" to "ultra safe areas". The charts are not all that accurate, and they don't want to take a chance!
